Smallest possible PSU to power ONLY a GPU.

Hi.

 

I am going to run an eGPU setup where I have a 960 running over Thunderbolt to my mac. I need some sort of power supply that can give the card enough power. I don't want to go about buying a large ATX power supply jus to have a single 6pin.

 

Are there any power supplies that can do this? I have been looking at the HD Plex but I am unsure if it will work.

You should check out Silverstone's SX600-G. It's an sfx size psu which is currently the smallest they make, it's fully modular so you wouldn't have any extra cables hanging off of it, and it's 600w which would give you plenty of headroom should you decide to upgrade in the future.  It has an 80+ Gold rating and semi fanless technology, although there have been reports of fan noise (ticking and squeaking) by a lot of people, it seems to me that there are just as many people reporting they have no fan noise so it might be a gamble.  With all that said, I still think it would be a good psu but that is ultimately your decision.  I just thought you might be interested in it seeing as how it's modular and all.  Hope this helps!

Also consider an external PSU. I am using the Dell DA-2 220W with my external GTX970 ;)
