So, this kinda really sucks, so I'm really hoping somebody could give me some advice here - this is a much beloved birthday gift, and I'm not exactly drowning in cash for repairs..

Before people tell me I shouldn't have had a phone out without a screen protector - I ordered a tempered glass screen protector before I even got the phone. I ballsed up the application of it when trying about a week ago, I've been planning to get another but don't have the money right now.

So today I was out and about and me and my friend sat down for shelter under a roof lip of a firestation, we were listening to music on my phone (cup method anyone?), and she took it off me to see what was playing, she checked, and then gingerly left it (not dropped, gently placed) the device screen down onto the cement floor. I told her off for doing so, and gingerly picked the phone back up - no great damage, awesome. We kept playing music and chatting and so forth, until I checked the screen and on the top right corner of the device there was a crescent shaped crack, about 3cm long, going from the right bezel, out, and back to the right bezel.

I've gotten home and the screen is bugging the fuck out, multiple restarts haven't helped. It's useable at first, everything except the 'P' key on the keyboard, with no glitches and fine actions. Then as time and use progresses, say after typing for 3 minutes or so, it starts to big out and press the center right of the screen, and then begins to totally freak out, constantly pressing that area. Restart the phone and the cycle begins anew.

I'm really pretty upset but I'm not angry, she was very gentle and it was pretty amazing there was a crack at all really, it really was a freak incident. But really, I just got this phone after a cracked Nexus 4 was replaced with a faulty Moto G2 that disappeared in the mail, and was replaced by a very cracked S3 hand me down.

I'd really like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if there's any kind of temporary fix. It seems to me that there's something of an increase in pressure on the area of the screen with the crack, and that maybe pressing around it gently might help. But I don't know

Thanks.

Despite the OnePlus One having Gorilla Glass 3, it's a fairly large sheet and therefore not super durable.  If you've seen any drop tests, it's fine when dropped on the sides or back, but if you drop it on the front, it's game over.  Seems like your case could have been a fault in manufacturing though.

I have never used a screen protector and I never managed to damage the screen of my phones in any way. I would really like to know how so many people manage to destroy their phones...

Currently I'm also using the OnePlus One.

It sounds pretty fubar to be honest.

I have a pretty serious crack on my Nexus 5, from the top left all the way to the bottom right, as well as a secondary crack that extends from the main crack to the side.

However my screen is still perfectly responsive, no issues.

I think you might have damaged the board, or another component. If that's the case you might almost be better off just buying a new phone, depending on what they're charging for repair services.

very true.  Considering his friend placed it face down on pavement, that's a pretty good reason not to fix it.

Same here.  No idea how people shatter their phones.  Never happened with my Droid 3, and Hasn't happened yet with my OPO.

@Tadgh also the OPO had touchscreen issues without damage (mostly fixed in a recent patch), so that's also a factor.

I'm just amazed by the sheer lack of force that did this

I have never used a screen protector and I never managed to damage the screen of my phones in any way. I would really like to know how so many people manage to destroy their phones...

Currently I'm also using the OnePlus One.

I dropped one from a height onto tiles, one was eaten by a puppy, and one was defective with a weak 3.5mm jack

It sounds pretty fubar to be honest.

I have a pretty serious crack on my Nexus 5, from the top left all the way to the bottom right, as well as a secondary crack that extends from the main crack to the side.

tbh mate, I'm really afraid you're right. It's pretty fubar, it's looking like the wifi has stopped working..

Yeah, that S3 I talked about is literally missing a large portion of it's front-piece and it still functions..

I'll email them, thank you for the advice

Everyone's different ;)

I cracked mine when my girlfriend sat on my lap and we were sitting on a log a the beach, with the phone in my back pocket.

Oof, that thought is making me cringe, all that weight put on a portion of the phone's screen. Yikes..

very true.  Considering his friend placed it face down on pavement, that's a pretty good reason not to fix it.

In all fairness, it was a dry face down pavement, and very very gingerly placed.

Same here.  No idea how people shatter their phones.  Never happened with my Droid 3, and Hasn't happened yet with my OPO.

It'll happen to you someday friend ;)

@Tadgh also the OPO had touchscreen issues without damage (mostly fixed in a recent patch), so that's also a factor.

I had read up on that with a little google-fu, sounds like a miniature version of what I'm experiencing rn. However it's also looking like there are some other issues occurring so as was said earlier on, might be board damage.
