Hey Guys! I am planning on building a new pc but am not sure if every part I have chosen is the best value I could get. If anything could be better, feel free to tell me!

Here's a list of the parts I've picked out-

Motherboard:  ASUS M5A97 AM3+                                                               $72

CPU:  AMD FX-6300 @ 4.1 gHz                                                                    $100

CPU Cooler:  Hyper TX3 (plus additional  Arctic F9 92mm fan)                    $25

graphics card: GTX 760                                                                                 $150

Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750 watts                                         $30 (cheap because from a friend)

RAM: 8 gigs of cheap stuff (half I have, Half I'm buying)                               $20

Total is $415 because I plan on using the case on my pc now as well as the 500 gig hard drive. Any comment is appreciated, Thanks!

You'll be replacing that within a year or less..

Why the CPU you chose is bad for the future, and even now...

I always advocate the right tool for the job, and for some jobs, the FX processor is the best tool for the job, but you need to be aware of what your priorities are when building your machine.  If your priority is gaming, then Intel is the clear winner regardless of price point. I don't hate AMD, and I have experience with both processors, and have owned both Intel and AMD. My goal here is to help others by avoiding costly mistakes that so many before them have made.

I see so many users on this forum complaining about their gaming experience with FX processors that it is time to put a stop to it, and the best way to do that is nip it in the bud and recommend the correct tool for the job. The most common problems are unsatisfactory results in certain games, VRM throttling, and GPU bottlenecking.  In my links below I will show you many different, yet conclusive results compiled from respected hardware reviewers and other members of this forum.  I hope to paint a picture as to why the FX processor is the inferior option and why it is a bad choice for a gaming machine.

Using PCPartPicker is easy to do theoretical builds to share with people.

Someone soon will make you an i5 4440 machine that will EAT THAT machine for breakfast in all areas.

Depending on the budget the i3 may be the option to take, and in gaming the FX still gets REKT against the i3's.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Get an i3 4170 and cheap motherboard. You'll get a lot more performance now and still have an upgrade path down the road.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

thanks, should I go with an i3 or i5 then?

and a different motherboard to accommodate this change?

An i3 will be good for the time being. If it starts to become a performance hindrance you can always upgrade to an i5 or i7. You can also use a cheap motherboard since it's a locked CPU. That's why I linked that cheap MSI board.

This is the best bet.

You can ACTUALLY FEEL the upgrade being faster when you upgrade.

You can upgrade the FX 6300 to the FX 8350 and gain a few percent, or go with the i3 and upgrade to the i5 and gain a lot of percents :)
