Ok, hi this is my first time posting here and i just had a quick question regarding my current setup and how i want to upgrade it. My current setup is a gtx 970 sc g1 gaming edition with 1 samsung 28" 4k monitor and two 22" 1080p monitors on either side. I was wondering that if i were to purchase another two 4k monitors to match my current middle display would i still be able to play games one only one monitor while only using the other two monitors for internet/music/misc, with just a single 970? I have been planning on getting another 970 but im just wondering if it would still be possible.

TL;DR : I have one 4k monitor and i want 2 more too match, but i only plan on gaming on one with a single(maybe 2) 970('s). Possible?

Why not get a better GPU or something else, seems like a too pricey upgrade just for music and internet.

So, you guys would recommend to wait and sell my 970 to buy a 980ti? rather then just getting a second 970? All i need is one 4k to game on and the other two for screen retaliate and for other random stuff. I just want to be able to run farcry 4 on medium/high in 4k on my main monitor and ill be fine

Stcok 970's only have 3.5 gigs of VRAM so in games running 4k you will have to turn the settings down to accompany for the VRAM just get a 980 or 980ti which both have 4 gigs of VRAM

I'm with the 980ti crowd. I sold my two 970's that I was using on a 1440p screen because the stuttering was horrid. Got a single titan x and it's much better experience. I tried 4k with two 970's and it was just awful.

I would go with a 980ti because the 3.5gb of VRAM is just cutting it too close at 4k. AMD cards perform better at higher resolutions to the point that a 390x will be around 75-85% the performance of a 980ti which can struggle at 4k on max settings in demanding games, so maybe 2 of those? Although that is even more expensive and it will draw a LOT of power. 2 390's will be about the same price as a 980ti, so if you have the wattage for it, that could be a good alternative.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.
