Instagram updates image resolution

Instagram just updated the resolution on Instagram pictures from 640x640 to 1080x1080. 

That's really good since they were "ok" to look at in the app itself, but if you planned to do anything like a background or view it on a desktop it just weren't high enough resolution.

The only bad thing I can see from this is more data usage, which can suck if you use Instagram a lot and have a strict dataplan.

 

An Instagram spokesperson tells us that the company started "gradually rolling out 1080 across iOS and Android" last week, meaning that most people should already be seeing the higher-resolution images in the mobile app. Alas, Instagram on the desktop remains a second-class citizen, as Instagram says that "right now we are focused on mobile, with no plans to share on web."

 

If you want to get the 1080px image without taking a screenshot, view the image from the Instagram website in a web browser that allows you to view the source HTML code and if you then search for .jpg, the first URL will be the full image.

So, we can thankfully enjoy Linus' photos with more fidelity than ever.

Instagram just updated the resolution on Instagram pictures from 640x640 to 1080 x 1080.

Its in the Original post.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P
If it's not broken, take it apart and fix it.

yep, most of my phone background are from instagram because yeah it's easy to find

So I guess it'll be another few years until they implement higher than 1080p resolutions? I mean 1080p is nice and sort of the standard at the moment but it would be nice to see Instagram to be a bit farther ahead of the standard and have at least 1440p if not UHD support.

Well you can just tinker around a little and it doesnt necessarily have to be square :P
