Hello, I was shopping for my new laptop and I caught myself confused. What is p100dx??

HP Pavilion 15-p100dx $540

HP Pavilion 15-p114dx $570

HP Pavilion 15-p214dx $580

Here's the spec I copied from p214dx one.

  • 5th Gen Intel Core i7-5500U processor
  • 15.6" WLED-backlit high-definition display / Intel HD Graphics 5500
  • 6GB DDR3L SDRAM / 750GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm)
  • Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive / Front-facing TrueVision high-definition webcam
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 / Natural Silver/Ash Silver

If I am not wrong, I think they all come with same specs. What's the difference?

Why is the price increasing by that number?

depends whether you like your 40 bucks or not, i'm uding all i5's, personally don;t see the point in i7's in laptops unless they're uber gaming ones

The only difference is the newer i7 with slightly higher clock speeds. I'd say it might be worth the price gap.

Cool, thanks for the great responses.

Instead of posting the amazon link, look up the product specs on HP's website instead.  Its way more accurate and has more information.

The difference between the p100 and the p114 is going to be firmware and software related.  Do yourself a favor and buy the p114dx model.  It is going to have less hiccups than the p100.

The 214 on the other hand is simply a more powerful version of the 114.  It has a 5th gen Intel Core i7 (the 114 has a 4th Gen i7) with better onboard graphics than the previous models, higher IPC counts, and better battery consumption.

If you'll go to the software and downloads page you'll notice that the p100 has many more versions of the same drivers, meaning the computer has been out for longer.  That means the p114 is going to be supported for longer and WILL have more up to date stuff towards the end of its life.  Although the p214 is simply more powerful than either of the other two.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!
