No amount of OC will ever get you to saturate that GPU. Eventhough it's an nvidia GPU, so you'll not have AMD-levels of driver overhead, it's still a really bad match.

Besides, we can't even be sure overclocking is an option as we don't know the board of cooling.

Hi Everyone!

Is it worth overclocking the 6300, would i see much difference in FPS? Or is it worth moving up to the FX-8370 and overclocking that? My GPU at the moment is the MSI GTX 970.

Thanks!

Nope get an I5 if you are wanting to upgrade. The FX processors will bottleneck any high grade GPU. Overclocking will practically do nothing unless you got some liquid nitrogen handy.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

So the outcome looks like i should upgrade to an i5. I forgot to mention that i have the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo for cooling the CPU.

if you want to make good use of your GTX 970 and max it out and having high minimum FPS in just about any games out there you DO require an intel haswell core i5 processor or better.
