Z97 vs Z87

I am buying a new PC and I was looking to save money so I was wondering whether a Z97 motherboard vs a Z87 motherboard would change performance in any way. I want any advice I can get so please tell me if Z97 is worth it. Thanks

Z97 also has support for haswell refresh (4790, 4690 and G3258) without needing to update the BIOS, whereas with a Z87 board you might need to update the BIOS. Though the newer ones might be shipped with an updated BIOS already.
