Thermal throttling

Go to solution Solved by 19_blackie_73,

How can you get to the CPU? Just remove the keyboard?

most times it is fine if you open the "case" and remove every dust you can find. I don't think it's necessary to rip the mobo out of it but you can :D

How to rip your laptop apart: just google your model and look how to disassemble it

Hello guys,

My laptop, specs below, is becoming 85 degrees when I'm gaming. This causes huge thermal throttles which make games unplayable whilst the CPU is only at 70 - 80% load (I am using Intel HD). When I am stressing the CPU with cinebench, and the CPU is at 100% load, the highest temperature the CPU can get is 70 degrees. Why is my CPU hotter when gaming? Can I do anything against the throttles?

Thanks in advance,

MrChavelo

Maybe it's not getting thermal throttled, but rather just gets bottlenecked by intergrated graphics.

Try monitoring CPU vs. GPU usage (not sure if you can monitor GPU usage with iGPU). Or try monitoring your CPU's frequency (GHz) while gaming. If it gets hot and thermal throttles, it should go lower.

When I'm playing Battlefield 3 on low settings I have a stable 30fps, but sometimes it just drops to 5-10fps for a minute and goes up again.

I'll try that, thanks

It gets hotter because you stress every component while gaming. And you can't really do a lot about it, maybe buy like one of those laptop cooler pads you put underneath with fans on it. That's how laptops are though, yours isn't made for gaming and most laptops are designed to thermal throttle.

Yeah, I got this laptop when I was ten. And the only game I was playing then was minecraft. Fortunately I'm going to build my very first own gaming computer very soon

definatly dust, dust EVRYWERE, i had this problem, my laptop(now dead rest in peperonies) was just full of dust because i almost never cleaned my room(lol), so when it came under stress the fans were just full of dust and the exahust was also full of dust, so i removed the back of it and took a can of air to the cooling and it helped

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I managed to remove some of the dust. Now the CPU isn't going any higher than 70 degrees. Thanks!
