Odd problem with windows 7 sounds controls

just right click on your sound control bar. avoid the shortcut

So like many of you here i am constantly switching from my headset to my speakers and back. I have the windows 7 sound controls shortcut on my desktop.

Odd thing is for some reason about 70% of the time it's taking 5-10 minutes to pop up. Even if i go through the control panel it will still take awhile to open.

Obviously this is very annoying. Sometimes it will open right away like normal but more often it takes an absurd amount of time.

Iv'e googled around and haven't found anything. Anyone every experience this? Any help appreciated.

i would just get a audio splitter and switch off / on your speakers when you (dont) need them, thats the way I do it
