AMD Athlon X4 860K or AMD FX-4300

I am coming from the console(Peasant) life into pc gaming after 6 years of console gaming, but i have a very low pc budget at the time, I have heard the athlon series has a better time overclocking but this 4300 seems to have a little more power under the hood to me. I also want to know if you guys think these cpus would bottleneck a high end graphics card? I will currently be running a 750ti but I am upgrading to a 970 in a few months.

860K between the two cause it's usually significantly cheaper. Neither will have a problem keeping up with a 750Ti however they will bottleneck a 970, so if you're planning to get as good of a GPU later, get a better CPU now.

 

Consider getting a 290/390 instead, and invest the money you save into a better CPU to avoid bottlenecks.

Try and get a 6300 minimum and it would not bottleneck a 750ti. But 4300, 6300 and 860k would all bottleneck a 970.

If the 860k would bottleneck the 970 i will not be getting it, i would love some suggestions for a good cpu that wouldnt bottleneck a 970 for under 150$. Thanks for all of your help guys!

And you will need a CPU cooler if your going with AMD, so factor that into the price

For performance Now, get the 860k, it is a bit more powerful

For upgradability, get the 4300, It is on the AM3+ socket so you can upgrade a bit.

But i would recommend getting a i3, You would get better Gaming performance becouse of the single-core performance.

With a i3 you will also have the capability to buy a i5/i7/Xeon E3 to dubble the performance without changing motherboard.

Everyone is pretty much gunna say or agree with this.

The smartest option for longevity.

An i3, but honestly, like I said earlier, consider getting a 290/390 instead, and you'll be able to afford a locked i5, which with a card of that power, is the perfect balance for gaming.

Why would 6 cores clocked lower than 4 cores clocked higher be better? No thats a bad idea.

For AAA gaming it's better

Im pretty sure he is trying to say in order to OC with any cpu you will need an after market fan, you said that with AMD you need an aftermarket fan, so he thought you were saying that with intel you would not need a aftermarket fan.

750ti=R7 270X

But performance wise.

750ti<R7 270X

Get the 270X is the same price but performs significantly better.

Im buying the 750ti from a  best friend for 60$, He upgraded cards recently and didn't mind selling me his 750 under-priced, I would be getting the 270x if i was paying full price though.

The i3 is 40$ more and a cheap motherboard for it costs 10$ more then a cheap FM2+ motherboard.

So the i3 costs 50$ more then the 860K witch is almost 50% more then the price of going with the 860K so it makes sense that you would get a performance bost.

But his cost for a mobo and CPU would be 150$ instead of 100$.

Do you even understand how amd works? the 6300 smashes a 4300, just like the 8320 crushes both.
