Hey guys, I'm build my first ever custom pc. I'm only missing a couple of pieces, but due to budget reasons I'm being held up. It's a double edged sword though. It kinda helps with the planning a little bit. I planned on getting Windows 7 for the OS, but with Windows 10 coming out near the end of the month, I was curious what everybody thought of the new OS for a mainly gaming rig.

Windows 10 will have a free upgrade for windows 7,8,8.1 users within the first year of release and the upgrade is forever.

Windows 10 will also have DX12 (exclusive).

Windows 10 is supposed to be better than windows 8.1 and with the latest build it is.

From what I've seen, Windows 10 is supposed to be extremely epic..

But idk, you can be safe and get Windows 7 or be a bit risky and get Windows 10, because for all we know it could suck even though reviews have seemed amazing.

Get 7 (I'd suggest pro that way you can get access to more features and such) then upgrade to 10 for free at the end of the month.

Good place to get it is microsoft software swap on reddit, I got windows 8.1 pro on there and it has worked great.

Windows 7 is actually worse than Windows 8, overtime it slowly kills itself and becomes sluggish.

I like 7 more than 8, and considering how the OP would only be using it for a month or so, it wouldn't hurt to go with it over 8.

Well Windows 10 is not official out. and official drivers are not out yet (and even then, we have to wait for more polished drivers if you want the best possible experience. So, their second or third release). But so far Windows 10 is shaping to be very promising.

The only downside I can see, is the forced Windows update and driver.

I posted a user feedback, to have at least be able to hide driver updates, and it is going up, but it needs a lot more votes for Microsoft to consider it: https://windows.uservoice.com/forums/265757-windows-feature-suggestions/suggestions/8232813-hide-updates

So please vote, so that in a later update, this is allowed.

Beside that, great and solid OS. Windows 10 is rapidly getting better at each build

I am a huge fan of Windows 8.1 so i would suggest that. Correct me if i am wrong but Windows 8/8.1 is cheaper then Windows 7 these days isn't it?

I have been using Windows 10 in the Insider preview and i am pretty impressed with it. Just like Windows 8 launch i'll be personally upgrading straight away, even thought probably not recommended.

Honestly if you like the start menu, Windows 10 will be great. Me personally, I've come to like Windows 8.1 so I'm finding it hard to like 10 because if you're not one to really like Windows. (at least from what I've experienced from W10 build 10074) it seems so unrefined and basically a bastardization of Windows 8.1 and 7, I don't like where the search bar is placed and I've grown to like the charms bar.

Though if Microsoft considers 8.1 a whole new OS, and on the good bad good cycle 8 was bad. Then 8.1 would be good and 10 would be bad. /s

Many are going to like 10 because it has elements they've liked from previous Windows it's a modern form of what they've either grown up with or have learned to use and love. From a design standpoint basically it's not nearly as clean as 8.1 also it sort of seems cluttered with the live tiles and the start menu, honestly it's like give me one or the other.

Me personally I can tolerate 8.1 and sometimes 7, 10  doesn't do it for me (and I was really hoping it would). I'd rather use Ubuntu or Fedora or Elementary than Windows but unfortunately for me Linux wouldn't be able to what I need it to do.
