Best Resolution for 2-3 way SLI Titan X

MrLawlessGaming

I am looking to get 2 and maybe 3 Titan Xs and am looking for a resolution solution. I know 1080p would be ridiculous and I should be able to max out settings at 1440p and/or 4K. I am wondering about Nvidia Surround setups as well though. What about Surround (3 monitors) of 1080p,1440p or 4K? What are your thoughts?

1440p would be the safest bet. You could be able to play 4k better than most setups but 4k gaming still isnt very viable if you want ultra settings and 60+ FPS

EDIT: also just stick with 2 way SLI.

4k or surround 1440p?

Two titan X's arent enough for more then two 2k monitors. Two can't max out the witcher 3 in 4k and get 60fps. Also don't buy a titan X buy a few 980ti's and overclock em.

Get two Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 Gaming. The Titan X is not worth the price. I know because I have two of them and run them at 1440p 144Hz.

@Pizzatime6 I'm going to try that tonight as I have Titan X's

So 1440p Surround is out of the question? What about 1080p Surround?

One thing I don't overly like about 4K is the 60hz limit on the monitors. Is this a big problem in games like CSGO of COD/Battlefield?

I appreciate the comments about the 980tis/fury x but, with all due respect, that is not what I am asking for advice on. Thank you for understanding

If you want surround 4k or 1440p get minimum of 3 titans though 4 would be ideal.

I got 60fps by making a custom resolution of 3200x1200. Not really 4k but a bit above 2k so you dont need to upscale as much. Also youlld get 80-100fps in metro redux in this resolution maxed out with no ssaa. I tried running crysis 3 with aa to sharpen edges a little, and slight aa with 3200x1200 and it looks pretty damn close to 4k. Especially when I trun vivid pixels all the way up on my monitor.

Anyone have any thoughts on Surround 1080p or Surround 1440p?

2k youll need more then 2 for more then 2 1440p monitors. Same if you run more then 4 1080p monitors. In all honesty the 980ti gets 3fps lower then a titan if you buy a overclocked model. Could save yourself some cash and buy a 980ti.

So the 980Ti Hybrids just came up online here in Canada and it is about the same price to get 3 of those compared to 2 Titan X Hybrids. What would you recommend? Is that 6GB VRAM going to be a problem if I do surround 1080p/1440p or 4K or something? Or am I worried about nothing? Thinking of games like GTA V and Witcher 3

3 way 980ti is Deffo better than two Titan x cards considering the fps difference is like 1-2, 6gb of vram will be fine.

So what resolution would you recommend? I am stuck between Surround 1080p, Surround 1440p (may not have enough horsepower) and 4K. My one gripe with 4K is the 60hz refresh rate since I will be playing FPS games like CSGO and COD/Battlefield

Go 1440p surround and in the future when 4k does higher than 60hz change.

wait what!? so here I am playing games such as bf4, GTA V and killing floor 2 at 4k on all ultra setting at 60fps+ (bf4 is 75fps) on a single 980ti! mine must be the fastest 980ti in the world.

yet there's people in this thread saying not even 2 titans can do 4k 60fps..

seriously if you don't own a 4k monitor and multiple struggling Titans don't comment about it...

the reason you so benchmarks of Titans in sli not maintaining 60fps at 4k is because they use a ridiculous amount of AA in the bench marks.. AA at 4k isn't needed...

in bf4 I get a steady 75fps at 4k ultra with no AA, I turn on 2x AA and it goes straight down to 45fps..

buut because the combined linus community seems to think 4k is impossible on any setting with 4 way sli.. I must be wrong and making everything up..

So, I think I will go for 1440p Surround with 3x 980 Ti Hybrids. That way, if there is a game I can't possibly run at 1440p Surround, I can just disable Surround and run it at 1440p. I am thinking of getting 3 of the Acer 1440p IPS G-Sync Monitors (they are cheaper in Canada than the ROG Swift).

Do you think that maybe the 6GB VRAM available on the 980 Ti will not be enough for 1440p Surround? It is about 33% more pixels than 4K after all...

EDIT: Or do you think with the coming of DX12 I won't have to worry because I may have 18 GB combined VRAM? Or instead go with 1080p Surround to ensure high FPS and that I will have sufficient VRAM? My thinking is that if I have 3 1440p monitors in Surround what is the point if I will be hitting my VRAM limit and/or can't get acceptable FPS.

Go 4K surround. Your monitors lifespan will be greater than than your cards. Also you could max out some games on 4K surround, and those who you can´t, you can turn down settings or go for 1 monitor 4K.

You must have the fastest 980ti in the world. I don't even hit 60+ with my 980 sli in 4k. You should post some screenshots of that.
