My plan is to build a new PC when the 9970 is released and I wanted to see what you all thought about that parts I chose.  What could be improved?  What have I missed?  What other parts would you recommend over the ones I've chosen?

This is what I've planned so far: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Jamdude/saved/22DC

I'd like to keep the price below £2500.  I'm not sure if I want to sleeve my own cables yet but I know XFX doesn't do a great job of it themselves.  Do the Corsair PSU cables that you can buy separate work with other power supplies?

Any constructive comments would be appreciated, thank you.

I would go x79 for that kind of money. i7 3820 to be exact

3820 is not as good as a 4770k though

The Platinum versions are only slightly more expensive than the Vengeance Pros and I like the look of the Platinum ones :)

If you plan on watercooling why don't you go with the 900D

The 900D is £100 and I couldn't justify the price.

The 4770k out-benchmarks the 3820 by quite a bit and the 3820 is cheaper.

9970 is going to cost more than 500£

It was just an estimate, I thought it would be around the same price as a bottom range 780.  It's not a big deal if it's £100 more.

The 900D is a much better case for watercooling, more rad mounting space and all that, can route tubing behind the motherboard and all that, i'd defo get that over the 800D, plus you wont be changing that case for a long time im guessing

here you go.....once you add all your water cooling stuff it comes to just under £2500......you will get way better performance than your current spec'd items that i replaced....

You should keep in mind that the 800D is pretty terrible for watercooling higher end setups.

Hmm, maybe I'll look over that setup again and consider a 900D.  I won't be routing tubes round the back though :P  I do prefer the aesthetics of the 900D over the 800D.  It might cause my build to get over £2500 though if I'm adding another radiator and if the 9970 is more than £500.

That's not a bad idea going for the 3930k, I'd have to get better RAM than that though.  You also didn't include an operating system and if the 9970 is more than £500 I'd be quite far over my £2500 budget.

in my opinion the 900D is worth the price, specially if youre planning on keeping the case for a while. If you get a good case now, you might not have to upgrade for a long time, whereas if you buy a "cheaper" one now, and upgrade in 2 years, then you spent more money than if you had just bought a 900D before, but thats just my way of thinking :P

That's sound advice, I definitely won't be upgrading any time soon after I finish the build so the 900D might be the case for me.

Get some other fans, SP fans sounds like a vacuum cleaner on full. I would personally go Coloured coolant over coloured tubing, Looks much better IMO.

When you have a 900D kind of space to work with, Bigger rads (Nexxos Monsta Push/Pull in the basement : P), also, It'll be silly to do bay res - Why not mount a big glorious tube res in the middle of all the space that's not gonna be used? Will probably look better.

Also, for sleeving, Pexon PC is really good.

9970 has no performance (REAL performance) info or even rumors and it might end with no new Radeons this year.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

I've got SP fans in my current build and they are loud but I'm used to it and I'm wearing headphones pretty much all the time, they also have great performance which is why I can put up with the sound.

I know I definitely want the tubes to be red but I don't know if red tubes and clear coolant would be better than clear tubes and red coolant.  I think the red tubes would look better.

I put a dual bay/res in that 800D build because I didn't think there would be enough space for a nice big separate cylindrical res but if I got the 900D then there definitely would be.

I've looked at a few places that do sleeved cables in the UK and I'll probable order from one of them, thanks.

It's expected to come out near the end of the year but if I have to wait until half way through next year then my current rig will suffice.

Okay, here's how red tubing clear coolant will look:

Here's how Clear tubing Red coolant will look:

53118_2.jpg

Now, IMO Clear tubing Red coolant is nicer (you can ofc get darker coolant if you wish etc, If i'd build a red build that would be my coolant), To that adds the fact that you can easier see bubbles in your system, etc.

If you're used to the awful noise of SP then I guess you're fine.

And don't forget, As master linus taught you, Use Industry class velcro to strap it to that case!

Btw, Do a build log! This will be really nice.

I can't tell the difference between those tubes and coolant but I'll do some more research about it.  I might look for fans with similar performance to the SP120s that are a bit quieter and I will be using some good velcro if I can't find a better way to mount the res.

It'll be a while until the build log but I'll definitely make one.

I'd say wait till the 9970 comes out and wait for benchmarks. Then replan your build.

Also, everything but the cpu, hdd, and fans can be replaced with something cheaper without losing any noticeable performance.

I know I could save a bit on most of the components but it'd only be a small amount and I'd rather have better aesthetics and performance.

I believe the 9970 will cost around 650-700 USD just to compete at the same price range with the GTX 780.

when the 9970 comes out, Ivy Bridge-E will already have reached store shelves, so I also would get the X79 option.

The SSD I would change it for a Samsung 840 non-pro or Pro, its cheaper and for gaming you will use write process once a while just for installing games.

Corsair AX series has black sleeved cables, I don't really searched for other brands like Seasonic if one of their PSUs have.

If your spending this much why not buy a fully modular psu and buy some custom sleeved cable kits....they would cost like $50 more....
