OP, Your specs are somewhat too generic. What kind of DDR3 RAM and what power supply? The GTX 760 is not a good pair with the 4790K - it's a waste of money. @cheeze_tartz.

lol. what do you mean "too generic". The PSU is stated, "RM1000" and the DDR3 is Ripjaws so its from g.skill

I'm talking about their specs. Not yours. The tag made it misleading, I apologize. The appropriate corrections have been made.

Edit: Wrong person quoted lol..man I do that often.

If OP mentioned those specs in the OP - it wouldn't get called generic.

Pretty sweet build, a Mini 970 and a really snazzy case, boom...epic box.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

i thought id buy the best processor so id nver have to buy one for a while

I would save the 100 or so US dollars and get a 4690K(and if you don't plan on overclocking, get the regular 4690) and spend more money on a graphics card.

For the record, Sandy Bridge was released in 2012 and is still pretty valid for today's games.

Whoa there turbo. I had a 4770k paired with a 760. It did me plenty well. I could render at decent speeds while maintaining high to ultra settings on my 1080p games.

He never said this was only used for gaming.

This person doesn't claim to be rendering - the first impression I get is gaming. The 4790K is a waste of money paired with a 760. OP is better off bumping down to a 4690K or 4690 and spending more money on the graphics card. I'm quite aware of the benefits of hyper-threading in editing environments.

The way I read the OP is that he has already built the PC, and is only now trying validate his purchases by asking us.  The build is definitely not balanced, but can't do much about it now.

I didn't get any impression as to what he is doing because he never mentioned a thing about it. Don't call it a waste before you even ask the question.

The 4790K with a 760 is a waste unless OP is rendering. There is no other reason to buy it except for that. And I will say it again - The 4790K with a 760 is a waste of money unless OP is doing rendering/editing work.  On top of that, if OP is rendering, the amount of RAM they have is too low.

I dont know about that. I never used more than 8gb while editing my stuff. My cpu was maxed out during rendering but not my memory.

More importantly I hate it when people just make statements like "The 4790K is a waste of money paired with a 760" without validating why or asking if the op is doing anything with it. It makes newbies that just read the forum go "O hey the i7 is always a waste with that gpu no matter what". Its how you spread misinformation around.

Generally speaking, it is a waste of money. The build becomes unbalanced. We can agree to disagree, but I stand my ground. But if they actually read my responses, they'll know I'm referring to editing workloads.

But your first post made no mention of it what so ever it just said it was a waste. Yes you corrected yourself but you did not state that in your first response.

And I absolutely agree if there isn't any editing or other cpu intensive workloads it is a waste. I don't disagree with you on that. I just said that you need to not make blanket statements which is what you did the first time you said it was a waste.
