I run at 1440p, I'm considering purchasing this. I'm okay with any settings so long as I can get 40+ at native resolution. Doable?

It recommends a radeon 7870/ gtx 660 so I think you should be fine.

question- do Nvidia and AMD bother to tweak their drivers for these early access games?

I think they probably ignore them for the most part. Whereas when games like GTA V come out they are scrambling to squeeze every frame of performance out with driver optimizations.

ARK is still REALLY badly optimised. I got around 30/40 fps on low on 1080p. But it's still in early access so it can all change

Currently still fucked up performance wise without a powerhouse GPU or a mix of LOW to medium settings.

I'm sure the pre-beta patch's and post beta patch's will be aimed for performance, with new features still being added in the Alpha stage (speculation)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Developers should operate within the current drivers

And this is unreal 4,the ark team aren't rewriting the renderer, it's probably just that they don't know how to LOD correctly
