I will be running a maximus v formula and an asus gtx 780 directcu ii oc with and i5 3570k but will a 650W psu be enough for overclocking the gpu only?

I'm not quite sure about it:)

What power supply do you have?. 650w would be fine if it's a quality PSU.

If it's a decent psu, you could overclock your gpu and cpu all you want.

if it's a 80PLUS and above from seasonic, corsair, XFX, NZXT, ect then you should be fine.

650 watts is plenty. Even a 550 watt would do just fine - even if you're overclocking.

650w is great. it'll get the job done.

I wouldn't even say 650W. a decent 550W or 550W would be fine since your system, at load, probably won't break 400W. Then again, if you go 650W you'll have some more options like the awesome AX650 which is a very nice corsair power supply.

I'm going with a good 650 W corsair psu and thanks for your replies. It's my ever first all alone build:)

What are you talking about? A 550 watt PSU will not be redlined at all.

You should be fine with a 650...just make sure it's an A brand PSU.
