Hey guys need your help! I am building a PC for my friend basically for FIFA so i guess he wont be needing 8 GB of RAM and were trying to cut cost as much as possible so I was thinking of 6 GB RAM but I think 1x4 and 1x2 will give me problems so I am thinking of getting 3x2GB RAM sticks but the problem is here that I am not sure if this will work properly as this is uncommon.... Will I have any problems? Note :- Mobo has 4 DIMMs.

It won't run in triple channel mode, but it won't cause any problems. I've also used a 4GB DIMM and 2 GB DIMM before and had zero issues with it. Honestly with how cheap RAM is at the moment there's not much of a reason to skimp out on it.

Why not spend the 10-20 dollars on 8GB? It's the standard anyway.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

basically: if you have a dual channel mobo go with dual channel kits -> how much price difference is between 4 and 8Gb of Ram at your location?

It will probably work if you have 3x 2GB but it's not an optimal way... what do you have for a mobo?

get the 1x4gb and 1x2gb, easier to change up later on. it will run fine, no visible performance impact whatsoever. But yeah since ram prices are bout the same, maybe you can cheap out somewhere else :)

Do try to find a cheap single stick 8gb tho, if you can. or live on a 4gb first. if fifa is all you are doing without crazy background apps, you will get by.

How...Could...YOU?

You monster...

Seriously though, that isn't a bad idea assuming he ONLY wants to play FIFA. A PC is useful for so many more things that just gaming though. Also, he may get into different games at a later stage. Plus he can upgrade later.

If he wants to play FIFA... get a console... It would be cheaper, more FIFA players on console as well as (in my case) friends play FIFA on console. FIFA is garbage anyway. And if he is going to get a PC just to play FIFA then I doubt he could play anything else... yeah upgrading is an option. But it would be MUCH cheaper to get a half decent PC straight off.

Just fine some second hand RAM. ASSUMING you go cheap build you will most likely only get a mATX or ITX system since their cheaper boards. Just get some single channel 8gb value ram from corsair or g'skill or kingstone etc etc
