EVGA Hybrid 980ti vs G1 Gigabyte 980ti

I hate to add to the 980ti threads... but I recently helped out a friend and sold him my 970 G1 for a good price. But I have to get myself a new card first. So now i'm looking for a upgrade. At first I was thinking just getting a 980. But i'm really considering VR in the future with the Consumer Oculus rift coming out in January. Or maybe Valve's VR. Anyway I really like my G1 970 and was impressed with it. So I thought I was totally set on the G1 980ti. And it being priced at $689 seemed like a good deal for what it offers for a standard overclock out of the box. But it isn't in stock anywhere from what I can find. I started looking at the EVGA Hybrid 980ti. I love the fact it is an all in one solution for water cooling the card. But the cost of $749-769 made me hesitate. I saw them come in stock for a little bit late yesterday then they were gone... Anyway do you think one or the other would Overclock more than the other? The G1 has 2 x 8 pin power connectors while EVGA Hybrid has 1 x 8 pin and 1 x 6. Would that make a huge difference? Then of course the hybrid has the benefit of watercooling to keep the temps down which would help too.. err.

 

At this point the both look like great cards! Not sure which to go with. Might just end up getting the one that comes back in stock first.. I've checked Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect, BestBuy, EVGA none of them appear to be in stock.. might be waiting a few weeks.

 

Any advice you can give is appreciated. Which would you choose? do you think the extra power outweighs the watercooling or vise versa?

I'd go with the g1 gaming.

I would go for the G1. It has custom PCB and it is better binned so your chance to OC it is much higher than the EVGA Hybrid cooled one. EVGA is using reference PCB on that card I believe.

Even a G1 will be pretty damn noisey at 70C. 

 

I also don't buy the binning thing. Silicone Lottery is just too random.

G1 Gaming for sure, custom PCB IO is always great with their flex display tech, and the gauntlet sorting is boost.

Yes. EVGA has definitely better support.

It's still pretty noisy man once the GPU is OC'd.

hybrids cost more than the G1...

 

980ti's aren't cheap... their base price is 650 the G1 is $689 and the hybrid is $769.99 what do you mean the G1's price is steep?

I know but the normal retail for the G1 is $689 from what I can see from newegg. Why would I pay over $100 more for it. The hybrid comes with the water cooler so I feel it deserves the price tag $749-769. But I don't feel the G1 deserves a $799 price tag.

 

EDIT: I'm guessing you didn't see the link he provided. They are selling them for $799. I'm fine with $689 for G1 and $749-769 for Hybrid. But I would not pay anymore for either.

Anyway. I'm not saying one is better than the other i'm just saying the water cooler added on justifies the additional cost because that is more hardware that doesn't normally come with the other. I'm just justifying the value not saying which is better.

Well.. looking at my case looks like I can only get the G1 to work. I don't have a place for the cooler from the Hybrid at the moment.. Thanks for everyone's advice.
