Minecraft  has no controller support, FYI

An Xbox One / 360 controller has native support. I use it for GTA V which has poopy Keyboard controls.

When you ask a PC gamer if they use a controller and which one they use, more often than not they will say either the Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller. But the Steam controller imo will be a better choice for the games you have listed.

Xbox One imo

Its what I use in GTA V

Although PS4 is nice too!

xbox one or xbox 360 is your best bet IMO by a long shot, best support

I use a XBox 360 Controller now for over 3 years which works really well.

It's so easy to use and feels great.

please reread the the op, as it clearly states that im not a fan of the xbox 360 layout so any other recommendations?

I did read the OP. The PS3/PS4 controllers have no support and require you to buy a bluetooth dongle, fake the pairing of the Controller to the PC instead of the PS3 and then use 3rd party apps to basically trick windows into thinking it's an xbox controller. You'll need to map the controller for every. single. game.

I'm a PS2, PS3, PS4 user who has never owned an Xbox device. I bought an Xbox 360 controller.

There are Razer etc Keypads too, but they are modeled after the Xbox ones.

Just go Xbox if you want 100% native support.

i just use a wired x-box 360 one and its nice

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

A controller for minecraft!? wut? Anyway, you'll probably have the least trouble getting an xbox controller to work with your games... it is debatable whether it's the 'best' but it's probably the least hassle

Civ is going to be the real challenge, and supposedly the Steam controller with the touchpads works great for games like that.  Otherwise the other controller that I don't think anyone's mentioned here yet is the Nvidia Shield controller which works with PC's (have to use it wired though).  Granted the layout is fairly similar to the 360 controller but you get things like a trackpad to control your mouse curser, volume control, and a thumbstick that feels more sensitive (i personally prefer the 360 thumbstick, but without knowing why you don't like the xbox thumbsticks at least the Shield controller feels different)

Then better get used to an XBox controller, cause it is the only one that will work every single time with Windows cause it is supported directly by Microsoft.

umm, no you don't, it works just like a 360/ xbox one controller would. I know because I've used a ps3 controller before to play watchdogs and sleeping dogs on the pc. Also you can use a usb cable instead of buying a Bluetooth adapter.

You should be just fine with the DualShock 4; just get some sort of third-party software, and optionally an add-on that for regular Bluetooth, and you are good to go.

If you are willing to venture into game-pads, get the Logitech RumblePad 2 if you can find it.

Just saying that Minecraft PC can only be controlled with Keyboard and Mouse, without the use of old mods that wont let you play on multiplayer.
