Hey guys, recently my R7 260x has been artifacting a lot and I did some research and I found that this is because of its temperature (but im still not 100% sure about that), so I was wondering is 84 degrees Celsius normal for my card when idle?

The program im using to get the temp is Open Hardware Monitor

for idle. No that's not good!

For load it's ok, but 84°C idle is a clear sign of something wrong.

no, check the fan to see if its working. 84C at idle is VERY DANGEROUS. check your fan, it might have died.

Thanks for the fast responses guys, turns out my fan is acting weird. When my computer boots up the fan starts to work but then stops, anyone know why this is happening?

Get afterburner or something where you can test your fan.  A bearing might be going out.

As suggested already, install MSI Afterburner and check what the fan is saying. But it's a clear sign something is wrong.

How long do you have the card?

edit: MSI Afterburner can also tell you what the temps are, and the load, and a lot of other intresting things.

So I installed MSI Afterburner, my temps now are 58 with only LTT open, I have manually put the fan speed to 100% but the fan is still not running. I have had this GPU for about 2 years

Try to send it RMA if you still have warranty on it.

If you don't, we will find a solution, probably new cooler.

well, i dunno about local laws, but here in Norway, we have a set of laws protecting the consumer.

So while i cannot get free RMA/repair when the factory warranty explires, i can demand that they repair it at a low cost simply because unless the product is not intended to last more then the factory warranty, then the factory who made it is responsible for ensuring that it lasts at least 5 years. So they cannot refuse to repair it at the very least.

well, honestly. check up on your local laws regarding consumer products. Most countries do have some sort of laws governing product failures that happen after the factory warranty. However gotta ask, have you overclocked the GPU before? Have you cleaned your PC with regular intervals, and if so, how did you clean the GFX card?
