Hi Everyone.

Just thinking about my processor now for my PC. This is my complete build:

[PCPartPicker part list](http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Y43Gzy) / [Price breakdown by merchant](http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Y43Gzy/by_merchant/)

Will my i5 4690K be enough for gameplay at 60fps + with games maxed out at 1080p. Then in the future, I'll probably upgrade to a 1440p monitor @ 144hz, again playing games at max settings above 60fps.

What I'm wondering if my i5 will be able to keep up these standards for years to come. Playing games at ultra settings at high FPS. Will it be to much stress for the i5 over the years. Should I upgrade to an i7 to be safe for the future?

Thanks.

That will be fine. Eventually some games will start using more than 4 cores, but due to lazy developers that will not happen for quite a long time;anyways, the I5 4690K's single core performance is amazing, make sure to overclock it for even more performance. Also, 980ti is bordering on playable for 4K, so a 1440p monitor will be NO problem.

You'll be fine on the CPU front for at least 3-4 years.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Given the current lack of competition on the desktop CPU market, I'd say you'll be fine for a while.

You should be fine for 2-3 years

If I were to get an i7 for gaming. What would be the best one to get?

You will recieve NO benifit by getting an i7 just for gaming.

It's not just going to be for gaming. It'll be for work and Internet browsing also.

You dont need an i7 unless ur rendering videos or u have literally 1000 tabs open in chrome while on autodesk or doing CAD.

Possibly just some basic word processing, Internet browsing, watching and downloading movies, listening to music. Nothing to tasking.

You won't benefit from an i7 then. It will be a waste of money. It seems gaming is the most taxing thing you do on your system. For that a i7 4790k might be a downgrade, yes a downgrade because there is a chance you won't be able to get the same over clock resulting in less performance in game since games benifit from single threaded performance.

I dont think that is entirely true.  The i7 4790k has a higher clock speed compared to the i5 4690k, making it better for gaming.

Benchmarks prove with a single titan x even the 4690k vs the 4790k will only gain 2-5 fps so not worth it.
