Does my CPU throttle my GPU?

I'm not sure if this should be posted in the CPU sub forum or this. 

 

I have an AMD 8320 and a MSI GTX 980.  I feel like my performance is less than what it should be.  To check my suspicions I bought 3dMark on Steam for sale.

I will post the scores in a minute.

 

But in your own opinion, is this CPU hindering the performance in a big way?  At this point in time I'm actually planning going for a 5820k and x99 when I do my next build in a few months just to futureproof.

 

I do have a H100i cooling this so I can overclock it.  Currently it is running stock.

More likely than not, it is. But check your GPU usage to be sure.

2) dont waste your money on x99, skylake 1151 is a much better choice

I got a i5 4430 and it does seem as the CPU is a bottleneck. What was also interesting, going from Z87 to Z97 gave me a 10 FPS boost. Do you also have some game benchmarks? We could set out GPUs to the same clock speed and do some tests.

To be honest I'm only doing it for a White themed build.  I hate the MSI Krait x97 board because of the waste of Output ports they threw on it.  I am debating on an 8350 with a 970 Krait, or all out x99.

the 8350 will not be an improvement at all

save your money and switch to intel

in the mean time you can OC your CPU for a bit of extra performance

I wouldn't bother going to an X99 if you are just gaming. X99 is for content creation and work production, though you might see some improvements in DX12 but i'm not sure.

With a FX there is no point going over 290, 390 or 970...

 

AMD them self paired Fury X with i7 cause they know this is a issue!
