Which Graphics Card?

Currently looking at the Galax HOF 980ti or the EVGA ACX+ 980 ti with the backplate.

Not sure if the HOF would make the system too white in that case I'd go with the Evga

Hmmmm then I could get a cheaper 4k monitor with ips instead of the Acer 4k g sync one. Dang it I thought I had this all planned way to go. Now I'll wait for the benchmarks like everyone else........ Or I could get a 1440p free sync. Now you have me questioning everything way to go.

Given how close the Fury X is to being reviewed, I'd personally wait for some objective benchmarks to appear. I definitely wouldn't commit to either, yet.

I personally would avoid a reference blower cooler on a 250 Watt card. The Titan X, with the same TDP, throttles a bit with it's stock cooler.

So your thinking just stick with the HOF version because I'm pretty sure it's $700 which is only $50 more than reference. Also might go with only 16gb instead of the 32 in the link. A little to much overkill  :unsure:

Curious on the Motherboard choice, I'm not going to try and push something you don't want or anything, but you are spending A LOT of money on that motherboard. You might be able to find a black and white motherboard other than that one. I've heard a lot about the MSI Krait, but if you have your reasons, you have them.

If you want to fill all your RAM slots you could get 2x4gb sticks 1 set of black and 1 set of white. You will be eliminating you ability to upgrade doing this, but you do save $100 getting the 16GB instead of the 32GB. Giving you some nice pretty filled RAM though.

Also is there a reason you aren't going with an AIO Watercooling System? You can most likely get a much better overclock with lower temps if you do.

Nice, but it really only matches if you get the sabertooth board.

 

The h100 will work the same as the NZXT, thought you might want the NZXT for the matching though. I have the h100, it's kinda loud, don't know what the NZXT sounds like from experience in comparison, but im sure you can find the answer to that easily.

 

I would personally keep the NZXT to match the case, but i mean, it's all up to you.

Questions are fine man, I enjoy messing with this stuff and builds.

 

Umm, I think it's personal preference really. I personally would rather see constant 60 fps at 1080p than 4k at <45fps.

 

Here is a 4k benchmarks of some games with the 980ti (and others).

 

 

I don't think it's worth getting less that 40fps and even sometimes 20fps to see higher textures, smooth gameplay is where it's at. IMO

 

Maybe a 1440p 60hz monitor will be what you are looking for, as you can get over 60fps and 1440p gaming. Seems some games dip to about 45fps, but at least none of them hit the 20's like the 4k gaming does. here is the video I found on 1440p 60fps gaming. 45fps doesn't look to bad on the eyes if it ever drops that low from 60fps.

 

 

If you want to just play 1080p 60fps the 970s are where it's at. It's still the best price/performance ratio.

 

I would say either get a 970 or 980ti.

 

The price/performance ratio isn't as good on the 980s now that the 980ti is out.

 

So if you are sticking with 1080p 60fps gaming getting the 970 could save you a buttload of $$$.

 

Another option might be to get a 1080p monitor and 120+hz refresh rate monitor and shoot for even higher FPS for smoother gameplay.

 

To achieve this in most games you might have to turn down some of the settings on the 980ti, but nothing crazy. just a few small filters you probably will barely notice to achieve 120+fps in 1080p gaming. Would look really smooth, probably mind blowing... (wish I could experience it myself, never seen it.)

 

You can look at the above 1080p fps benchmark to see how close the 980ti can get to 120fps, so you can probably get a nice 1080p 120hz monitor and be pretty happy with that.

As I look at this more and more I'm thinking about going either the 970 or 980 HOF with the sabertooth and the "fancy" ram. Why even consider the 980 you probably ask. Well the 970 HOF is already $420 and the 980 HOF is sitting at $520 right now which is around reference price. So would it be worth it to go with the 980 instead of the 970 at 1080 or is the gain not worth $100

This is what I would do based on which monitor/gaming experience you want.

 

For 4k <45fps, 1440p 60fps, or 1080p 120fps gaming I would use this build... (Replace the EVGA with the HoF)

It's seems the 970 HoF is much more expensive than any of the other 970s... so it might not be worth. Unless you can find one. idk.
