Hello! I wasn't sure where to post this so I thought "Off Topic" was the best place.

I've always been into design and I want to have a go at some video editing.

(This is for personal entertainment not for such things like youtube)

I will be using OBS to record the game play but I'm not sure if my build will be able to handle it, reasoning for this post :P

My build is:

  • Intel i5-4690k
  • MSI z97-g55
  • 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3 PC3-12800(1600)
  • Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x 4GB

Whatcha think?  :D

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If your wish is to get into video editing then you're gonna need atleast 16GB for better performance but your build is fine otherwise.

Like I said, this is purely for personal entertainment. A hobby instead of a career. I should upgrade to 16GB soon anyway. Thanks! :)

Well there's a thin line between those threads , but I think this fits in the New Builds and Planning sub-forum ...

Openbroadcaster offers the same if not more features than the paid version of Xsplit has, but is free and open source. Just more freedom, is all. You do get stutters here and there, I think, but... it's free.

May I ask the last time you tried XSplit ?

Admittedly, I haven't used either. I looked up information on both of them, including comparisons between the two. Xsplit is nice and easy to use, but to use it for anything other than personal use, you need a license, and if you need more features than the free version of Xsplit provides, you have to pay for it. Openbroadcaster provides equivalent features, doesn't require a license for commercial use (Tek Syndicate uses it more or less constantly for their channel), and above all, it's open-source. For anyone who wants to just sit down and stream their game, either one works great, but if you're going full-featured on a tight budget, OBS takes the cake. I've got plenty of sources to cite stating this sort of thing if a subreddit isn't enough for you.

No, no. I'm not heading into a war haha, I was going to ask if you would like to try out XSplit, but as you don't use either it's fine.. I respect your opinion :)

ahhh, okay, that gives me peace of mind. Sorry, it's hard to read between the lines, sometimes... _(_ _)_ I would actually like to try both out, now that you mention it. That would be awesome. Would allow me to get my own perspective on it rather than just parroting what I read on review sites. ;)

Sure! shoot me a message and I can sort out a short trial code for you. Apologies for hijacking this thread also. :D
