Car audio? help!?!

Kyuubixchidori

Hello everyone! so my car I bought from my sister has a aftermarket headunit, and aftermarket speakers all around. now the thing they lack is bass. so, clearly what the car needs is a sub.

Perferbly, a AIO setup, amp box and speaker all in one in a smaller form factor would be great. something like http://www.amazon.com/Kicker-TCompS-40TCWS104-Subwoofer-Amplifier/dp/B00CNW0QDO/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1434940632&sr=8-10&keywords=subwoofer+and+amp

I have a small car, so 12 or 10 inch speaker most likely would be the only thing to fit. Im in the US, and preferably under 100$. I feel like im a new kid looking at GPUS here. so many different subs and I have no idea what determines how well they hit.

edit: at 100$ is it even worth going subwoofer? do they perform so bad at that price point door speakers do better?

I hate to break your heart, but a sub at $100 is pretty hard to manage if you have high expectations

half decent amps start at $75, $100 for the sub, $50 or so for the box, and then you need wiring, which usually comes in around the $30-40 mark for a "low" power system

(keep in mind, this is what I'd call the "sweet spot" where you start to get the intense bass, not just heard but felt)

that kit looks like a surprisingly good value, as there isn't a lot you can do for under $200 if done right

i'll just put it bluntly. Any $100 all in one sub is going to be a peice of crap. I used to be a car audio installer, so i have quite a bit of experience with these things. The amp and sub should be separate as most amps you get that are built into a box are basically garbage. Id set aside $100 for just the sub, and $100 for the amp. You will be very disappointing with a $100 all in one system.

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

Yeah, thats a big thing about what I was asking. As having no knowledge, I have no idea what the entry cost is.

something along the lines of this:http://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-TSSWX2502-Shallow-Mount-Pre-Loaded-Enclosure/dp/B00JQTU3QC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1434941664&sr=8-2&keywords=subwoofer+car

is that even a decent sub? what amp should I go with? I CAN go more, I just have no idea what to budget for. I dont need for the doors to shake off. my dads mustang came from the factory with 2 8inch woofers, and 2 12s in the rear, and that you feel more then you hear which is crazy, but I just want a bit more low end, nothing to crazy

my quick thrown together system, some assembly required, but if you can build a computer, you can probably handle it

any input on this system, @bob345 ?

I know it's CCA wire, but at 300 watts, I think 8 gauge CCA is just fine on a budget.

I replaced a car engine, and helped one other person build a addition after it was framed. I hope I can handle it.

is that the cheapest you'd go for a decent system? Because for a PC anology, I bought a hd 6670 just to realize I could upgrade to a hd 7770 that was twice as powerful for a extra 20$, and that the hd 6670 was the biggest waste of money.

and I appreciate it!

I build the box myself, which allows you to make it fit the vehicle well, to make the most efficient use of space, and a sheet of MDF is around $32 here. but that does little to nothing to bring the price down

there isn't much to be done to bring down the price if you want powerful bass

I'd predict this to be pretty deep, powerful, but not quite shaking the mirrors. I didn't make too many compromises in that system.

half inch or 3/4 inch? Could easily build it myself, and I know from basic reading that certain subs like certain sizes, so could do that and make it fit better.

always 3/4. even my tower speakers I am building are 3/4, although they are birch ply that costs 2.5 times as much (ouch)

that sub's specs list it as being ideal for a 1.02 cubic foot sealed cabinet, so I picked a 1.0 cubic foot box to match

building the box, you'd end up spending more money on materials, so I'd just go with that one unless you were really itching to build it yourself.

I'll go measure my cars trunk and see how well it would fit/space it would take up. thank you though

fairly decent given the cost. That wire should do fine with only 300 some watts. I would recommend this over that brand though. Knukoncepts over sizes their cca a bit and its cheaper. I used their 1/0 cable on my last big system and the quality is about the best you can get. Very high quality stuff.

here is their ofc copper kit too if you like that more

If you are capable of building the box yourself, it is something i would recommend. Prefab boxes are typically not all that high quality.

wow. that is a heck of a deal with the install kit. good tip.

I'd go with that if I wasn't planning on getting sky high OFC for my personal system

or you can go to a pawn shop and get a deal on a used one.... so many people who are irresponsible with their finances buy car audio... bonus is that you can hear it working because they will need to have a system to be able to check them when they bring them into the store.
