But after replicating the digital signal as analog, you can boost the amperage without distortion.

A digital signal cannot be "boosted" beyond full-scale it is true, but that is not how volume control works in any situation anyway. You can't listen to a digital signal at all, so boosted or not it must be run through a DAC in order to reach your ears.

The amount that an analog signal can be boosted is contingent on the power supply of the amp. Eventually it will distort, and it may distort immediately if the load is beyond the capability of the amp to drive at a comfortable listening level.

lel I know nothing about what I'm talking about so to see smart I linked hi-fi and wrote a bunch of stuff I made up... that's pretty much what you're saying. No one said they were audiophiles it's just knowing whats right and what's insanely wrong..

the drums sound muffled especially the cymbals

It may just be a volume problem, because when I use my headphones on my phone, I can barely hear a thing and it sounds muffled too. However when I plug in say a FioE6 it sounds just fine. Maybe it's just not loud enough? or is this not the case.

What's your headphone btw? As far as I know galaxy note has a very good on-board audio with 0.9 ohm output impedance. Check if your PC has any EQ or any sound effect turned on. Try other audio player and see which one it sounds closer too.

As for explaining the need of DAC and Amp, you don't amplify digital signal, digital is 1s and 0s. Every single audio device that can play a headphone properly will have a dac and an amp. There's no such thing as you need amp if you run 50+ ohm headphone and you need dac for 150+ ohm headphone, all headphones require amp and dac to run properly.

I dont think you know what's what in audio and if that's the case please restrain yourself from further conversation

I dont really consider myself an "audiophile" as audiophile for me means people who spend unnecessary amount of money (my old man with his $1200 karaoke speaker amp, bless his soul) on stuffs and listen to cables, amp or dac. Not the song itself.

Well, to be fair, 0 and 1s sometimes need amplification too in some cases. Like if you're sending it through hundreds of kilometers long cables. But then again, it's called a repeater, not an amp :D Who knows, maybe you got your PC in Boston, and your AVR in NY, wired all the way to Boston....

Please do explain how it work then. Because if you don't, your side of conversation seemed like it's coming from a 13 years old.

1. I'll just act smart and quote excerpts without proper understanding of the concepts

2. Whoops, someone called my bluff

3. I'll just act like I gave the wrong answer on purpose

4. To seal the deal, I'll just say I'm a mighty audiophile. Maybe they'll back off once they know I'm one of those audiophile

I didn't mislead their original question. They asked for a decent portable amp in their budget. I gave them one.

I actually am an audiophile. I'd have to say my favorite cans are the Beyerdynamic DT990 600 OHM. And before you say "The treble is so loud on those things!" I'll just let you know I'm a treble head.

"Real" audiophiles (at least those who really know what's what) wouldn't use the term 'treble so loud', because that's technically incorrect. What if I play a 400Hz sine tone on a 'loud treble headphone', would the treble still be loud?

DT990's frequency response is more of a V-shaped. It may be responsive in the high frequencies, but in terms of frequency separation, it's still below HD800, and T1 (even HD800 is below T1).

Oh, and the initial question haven't been answered. Do explain how audio works.

As in the science? Frequencies are vibrations made in some substance (usually air or water) that bounce against your eardrums. Your brain perceives it as an electrical nerve signal.

I call these things treble cannons. But I love them. Honestly the bass isn't as strong as you'd think. Listening to them is a completely different experience to what you'd think.

I expected there to be a lot of low frequency presence. It seems that the high end has more presence. Then again, my ears are probably being tricked by the great balance of low and high.

By other audio source, I mean device. Try your friend's phone or someone else's laptop
