DAC/AMP for note 4

Go to solution Solved by The Official Czex,

if i get an amp without the dac will it be fine my budget is around 50 dollars

FiiO is great for portable amps. http://www.amazon.com/E11K-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00MFMW29I/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1434933808&sr=1-2&refinements=p_4%3AFiio%2Cp_36%3A-6000

I find that music on my computer sounds considerably better than on my phone so should i get an external dac/amp for my phone and if so which one?

i have a 60 ohm headphone

also it needs to be small and fit in the same pocket with my note 4

its fine if it has no dac right?

Most are amp only, there's some models with a built in dac though, those are more than 50 dollars though.

No DAC is fine for 60 OHM. DAC is only necessary up in the 150+ OHM.

i did some research and my audio problems are probably related to the amp and dacs dont make a big difference apparently

Only if you have high impedance drivers.

Can you explain this statement, in detail, please?

DACs aren't necessary for nominal impedance headphones. Only use a DAC if you have to drive something with a higher than 150 OHM impedance.

What do you mean about the sound quality being different, do you mean volume?

What do you mean? DACs help amps by lowering distortion levels. They convert the signal so it can be ramped up without audible issues. High impedance headphones need them because they would have huge amounts of distortion if you increased the volume above a certain point.

This is not an acceptable explanation. You basically just repeated what you said above with more words.

Please explain WHY this is the case. I'm waiting.

DACs convert the signal to analog. When you raise the amperage on a digital signal, the audio becomes distorted. But on an analog signal, the audio quality won't dip too much when really pumping it through high impedance drivers.

None of this makes any sense, except the part about a DAC being a DAC.

How does it not make sense? Low amperage=low distortion on digital signal. High amperage=high distortion on digital, low on analog. The DAC helps lower distortion through high powered headphones.

It doesn't make sense because this isn't correct information. I'm not even sure what "low amperage = low distortion on digital" is supposed to mean.

It means digital audio out becomes distorted as it has a specific frequency to stay at. A DAC makes pretty much any quality music sound good.

This doesn't make any sense either, and the latter part of the statement is flat-out wrong.

If it's 44.1 kHz, a DAC can make it sound good at any volume.

A DAC isn't going to change the sound if it is working properly. The best a DAC can hope to do is reproduce the input signal accurately. Also, there is no such thing as "digital audio out". That doesn't make any sense.

But after replicating the digital signal as analog, you can boost the amperage without distortion.
