Headphone Recommendations?

Go to solution Solved by xtroria,

I'd recommend Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 and Mod-mic

My Razer Blacksharks just recently started having some issues and now I'm looking to get some new headphones, but I don't really know what to get.. I'd be ok with either a good quality gaming headset or some headphones with a separate mic.

I'd mostly be using them for gaming but If I get headphones(non-gaming) I would probably take them and listen to music on them on the go as well. That isn't really a deciding factor though. Would be like 80-90% home use.

I'm looking to spend around $200 USD.

I agree with this, but its open back so it leaks sound in and out so it may not be ideal for going out.

Audio technica ath m40x and a modmic would be a nice combo.

I have the m20x and for the money they are pretty damn good, very very comfortable headphones, sound pretty good as well.

if any of the reccomendations dont have a mic included you can grab an antlion mic for like 40 bucks on massdrop. B) :D

ATH m50 or m50x.

i use a pair of Samsontech (usually just called samson) SR950's. they MSRP for around 100 ish dollars, and the SR850's while less comfortable, use the same ear pad design, so you can swap them out and get a comfortable open back headphone.

i know buyerdynamic makes really good stuff. also fostex.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to a pretty wide variety of music. Rap(Run the Jewels, Soliloquists of Sound, kanye, etc.), various types of rock(Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Portugal. The Man, Tame Impala, Muse, Coheed and Cambria, The Strokes, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, etc.), some techno(glitch mob, daft punk, blackmill, Zedd, Mystery Skulls, etc.). I listen to basically anything but country(havent found much country I enjoy) quite a bit. My main concern would be gaming on them though.

I'd recommend Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 and Mod-mic

I second this. From the genres you listed the v-shaped sound signature of the 770 pros would likely be a great fit. Also it has comfortable velour pads, nice soundstage for a closed back pair, and good build quality to boot. That price is also great, nice find.

audio technica ath ad700x +moov mic will be a killer combo for gaming(and music).

If you can't use open back headphones you can get the beyerdynamic dt770+ moov mic and that'll be a very good combo.

I don't agree with the AD700x recommendation. Coming from his Razer headset they're likely to sound like tin cans to him and sound leakage will be a problem since he plans to use them on the go.

I decided on the Beyerdynamic dt770's since it was on a really good sale and when I tried them out they sounded spectacular. Thanks for all the input.

For owners of the modmic/moov mic do they stick on headphones well? Seems like there could be an issue with them falling off after a bit.
