Casual PC build

Go to solution Solved by martward,

Well he currently has a Laptop with a dual core intel and it lags and I want to make sure that doesnt happen again because he uses a lot of tabs in the chrome so I need more cores and threads and that is also why I put 8 GB instead of only 4GB of ram. Those chrome tabs are cpu and ram killers :)

In that case I would swap the 1x8 for 2x4 GB of RAM and leave the rest as it is. If you go with a higher end AMD you might save a couple of bucks on the mobo and cpu, but they need 125-220Watt (depending on which cpu) compared to the 84W the i5 needs.

You could also go with the Pentium G3258 as it has integrated graphics and for browsing, watching videos, etc.. it will perform the same as i5 while being a lot cheaper. You can also OC it even with stock cooler quite a bit if you want.

If you really want to push the G3258 to i5 level, I think you will need a better (read: more expensive) mobo, since this one (H81) is not really meant for overclocking. a Z97 will cost $100 easy. Plus overclocking asks for more powerconsumption, so over time the difference in cost will diminish.

Hello everyone,

I am building a PC for my father. He will be using it for mostly internet browsing, e-mail, and for storing pictures, although I do not need a beastly storage. Check my requirements below. I want the PC to be as small as possible

What I need:

  • i5 4/4(core/thread) or AMD equivelent  to that (must have integrated graphics) with inclued cooler or add a very cheap one
  • up to 128GB SSD(no larger)
  • up to 500GB HDD(no larger)
  • 6 or 8 GB of 1600MHz ram(no more)
  • MB preferably microATX
  • case(the smallest you can find)
  • PSU(probably about 350W - 400W 300W)
  • I DO NOT NEED A GPU

The budget is 500€(EUR) that is 567,77$(USD)

I am from Slovenia so please pick the parts accordingly...I cant buy things from US or anything outside EU(it is too expensive)

Here is what I came up with: CLICK

I did manage to get the price to 440€ on my own but those stores are not on PC partpicker soo yeah.

If you have any better suggestions to make it

You may want to go with AMD APU 7870k if you want better integrated GPU. Then you will need FM2+ motherboard and 2133MHz RAM would be ideal for that as the RAM speeds does matter for APUs. Or get 1600MHz RAM with XMP profiles so that you can OC it.

I do not need a beefy iGPU just so it works...it is a budget build and he only has 1 24" 1080p monitor and he only usess the internet and a lot of youtube....so I dont need a great graphics and i defenetly do not need a 2133MHz ram lol

Then the build you made is more than good for it.

I was just wondering if someone can make it cheaper with an equivelant AMD cpu and MB, because i dont really know AMD stuff much because I always take intel for myself but well I am not paying for this build so yeah I m on a tight budget

Seems like a good build. If I understand correctly, it is better (and usually not more expensive) two have 2x4GB in stead of 1x8GB Ram, due to the dual channel setup.

I'd stick with the intel, since they usually consume less power and are therefore cheaper over time. You'd need at least FX-63** to match the i5 performance.

If you really want to make it cheaper and it is only used for internet and youtube, why not go with an i3 or pentium processor (like to overclockable G3258)?

I actually now found an i5 4460 in some local store for cheaper than this i5 4440   :D

This is a pretty badass casual build, I wish my workstation had anywhere near this power ^^.  (Running a phenom II x4 965 BE).

Keep in mind that should you ever decide to build in a GPU later on, you will probably need to change the PSU as well. It should be more than sufficient for this build though.

Well guys thanks for all the answers and a nice debate. I guess I will go with my build but just change the i5-4440 to cheaper and slightly better i5-4460 and swap 1 stick of 8GB ram for 2 by 4. :) Tnx again for the quick responces ;)

Jeah it is enough for this one. This would require less than 200W but I think 300W is really a minimum for every build because you never know :)
