Depends on the price and variant. They're pretty much the same so if there's a large price difference just go with the 290X.

Very much depends on the price.. the 390x is marginally better but not at much of a premium.

I don't think the 390 beats the 290x, and you're probably more likely to find a better price on a 290x.

Other's have made it clear already, but I agree, it definitely depends on the price. If there's a significant difference just go with the 290X (plus you can have them for a steal on the second hand market).

Get a 290.

 

The x variant is not worth the extra $100 or so it'll cost you.  You can get a 290 for about $350 CAD and it's ~5 FPS slower than the 290x at most.
