Future build. Happy family.

DariusHG

So here it is, another kind of thread about "Hey guys pls help me build and awesome pc"... but this time there are some conditions.

I've made a deal with my father and sister in order to change our very old PC for a new one. We have agreed that each one of us will put 300-400€ budget which makes a build for about 1000-1200€ (1123-1348 US$).

That's why I've been reading and watching videos about PC's and consulting people. And I wanted to make an approach of what the PC may be.

Here are the conditions:

Sister: Light video editing (she's an amateur film maker) and daily work.

Father: Personal job (Book editing and correction), He also wants the PC to have a 5,25 bay in order to have an optical drive.

Me: Gaming with no OC at 1080p (at this moment I don't feel confident enough to make the big step to OC) and daily work.

My first idea was an i7 4790, 8Gbs of RAM, a GTX 970, and a good PSU (750W?/800W?), still don't know what motherboard will be good and what cooler need with the build (Cooler Master Hyper 212?).

I tend to be the Intel-kind-of-guy because some of my friends told me about power consumption while using AMD, and also I always thought NVIDIA graphics were more efficient than AMD ones. However, I will consider each one of your advice.

No monitor, keyboard or mouse needed.

Let see!

PS: sorry about my English

So you all want to use the same pc ?

Your dad could use a very basic pc whereas you and your sister will actually use the extra power.

The pc will probably result in a lot of fighting ( personal experience )

I don't know which was closer, germany or Italia....so here's what I've put together, might have to shop a little to find all of the parts, and since you mentioned that you were not interested in overclocking, no overclocking items have been added.

Does a "k" version really make the difference?

also does a GTX 980 fits the budget? If it does, then wonderful.

K means the unlocked multiplier, heaven on earth for overclocking. But if you're not planning to overclock, it makes more sense to get a Xeon, it has no integrated GPU (not that you're gonna use it with your 970/980 anyway) but it's also cheaper.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

And you're totally right, but somehow that PC is the family one, maybe we can let my dad use the old one and my sister and I use the "extra power" of the new one. However, there's never been a PC-usage conflict so far due to our different schedules.

k version allows for an overclock, and it does make a difference

and as seen here:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RLFbQ7

a 980 does fit the budget (if it is too much swap the h100i for a 212 evo)

He mentioned that he needed a bay for one, if he doesn't need it, it can be taken out, not too many other PSU's to pick from that were cheaper, at least on the part picker.
