Hello guys,

I'm confused about my temps atm. If I'm right, for fx series max cpu temp before throttling is 61C.

I use Cooler Master Seidon 120v Ver2. , Cooler master HTK 002 thermal paste , HAF 922 case and I'm getting on prime95 about 55C max and iddle min is about 37C.

Is that normal ? I think it's a little bit hot. My cpu is on 4.2 GHz atm. I also use 2x 120 fans on my radiator.

Edit: I know I missed forum section, I saw CPU section too late. Sorry admins about it .

A 120 Radiator may not be enough for that CPU, since it is so power hungry. A 240 or 280 rad may be better.

They shouldn't, I believe these CPU's can get quite hot, so I don't think it throttles at that temp. Will try to find something on it.

Otherwise, those temps are very much normal for the CPU. You should try to keep the max temps (under load) under 80 - 85 degrees C.

but 55c isn't bad at all especially with a mild overclock, i think my cpu (is intel so that will differ) reaches 75 with ease under full load

The max temp for the FX series is 61C.  55C under load with a 120 rad is quite good with an overclock.

My CPU has about the same temps with an h100i at 4.5GHz.  Your temps are fine.  Just don't overvolt it into oblivion - thats what will really kill it.

Well I heard that FX series are very sensitive chips and it must stays under 61C. Also , ppl on yt are getting much better temperatures with hyper evo 212  then me. So yeah, because of it , I'm confused atm.

With the same overclock and voltages?  Your temps are fine.  Don't worry about it.

I've build two systems with FX3850s and yes they run a little hot because for their internal design compared to intel's i7 series (a bit complicated to explain). However your temps are just fine. In both cases I've also got the 120v2 from Coolermaster and they are great. One thing I would recommend though is replacing the stock fan, while it is pretty good for an included fan, you can do better. I am currently running one system 24/7 with an old Noctua NF-P12 @ 1300 rpm. They are really quiet and the temps dropped from 55-57C to a constant 53C (8-Cores @ 3.9-4.3 GHz). A second fan helps a little in the summertime (no A/C in the house) but isn't really neccesary. If you're buying a new fan I would probably get a Noctua NF-F12 or Silverstone AP (Air Penetrator) and run them at 7V unless you need maximum performance (in which case you might have bought a 240 rad anyway).

As for the max temp. you should not exceed 65 C. If temps were to go up, check the seating and mounting of you cooler an reapply good quality thermal compound.

Stock Fan @ 3500 rpm 59 db* = 63 - 67 @ max load

Coolermaster Stock @ 2500 rpm 43 db* = 55 - 57 @ max load

Coolermaster Stock @ 2500 rpm + NF-P12 @ 1300 rpm 43 db* = 49 - 51 @ max load

Coolermaster with Noctua NF-P12 @ 1300 rpm only 38.5 db* = 52 - 53 @ max load

load testing running Folding@home for 72 h

*measured with Fluke sound meter 50 cm from the case with a running system including noise WD Black drives, GPU was idling (Fans off)

the case is a Coolermaster 690 III with side and top 200 mm fan installed
