Hello

I have recently bought an Antec TP-750C 750W Gold Power Supply.

The first thing my friend said when he saw it was that I was an idiot as this PSU doesn't have enough connectors  to power the newer graphics cards,e.g R9 290, GTX 980 etc...

Have I made a mistake? Will I need to buy a new PSU if I want to buy a new graphics card?

Thanks

It was on sale for less than a 500W PSU .

Thanks For All Of Your Help.

The price is just what the company that makes it believes it's worth over and above manufacturing costs.

Antec has some pretty good PSUs. This one that the OP has gets a 9/10 on JohnnyGuru

Price can Be no Indicator of Quality Particually if you got a Deal.

I bought a refurb Cosair HX650.. for 38 bucks on newegg... tested it out with an "artificial Load" up to 609 watts and it took it like a champ.

fan never turned on which worried me but touching the PSU it was Barely warm. so fast forward to a Blanket and my wifes 1200 space heater blowing hot air on it to Make sure it would kick the fan on... Using the IR sensor i read temps reaching 60c on the heatsink with an IR reader..... Bam fan kicked in cooled it down to about 55 then went into a slower spin...

its been running the PC for close to 5 months now...

-snip-

I think you should check the outlets that you're putting your PC into. There's a chance that something may be wrong with your wiring. I've since switched to a UPS as two of my PSUs died from the crap wiring and power surges from the awesome Chicago weather. Could be just unlucky though.

These are being put through a Surge Protector, always. I make sure my customers use a Surge Protector, or UPS. This is the PSU over-volting the Components.

out of the many systems I have built, all five that have used Antec PSUs have died, including my main system.

My mistake, I meant 4 systems.

A lot of Antec power supplies are made by Delta and Seasonic, who are two of the best oem's around. As mentioned above, you must have a problem elsewhere.

One minute, the PSU is working fine.

The next, a loud pop comes from the system and it over volts every thing, killing it.

I will stick with Cooler Master PSUs from now on.

If one PSU had failed then I would say fair enough as it can happen to any unit. But for four to fail then you have a problem elsewhere.

What would it be?! This has only happened with the Antec PSUs I've used, where as my Cooler Master & Corsair PSUs have been running strong for some time now.
