How cheap is the original Nexus 7 going for these days? Well, now only $75 on NewEgg's eBay store page. Free shipping in the continental US. Not bad for probably the best Android tablet of 2012.

It's the old 2012 model that doesn't receive updates so I wouldn't get it still a very nice tablet tho but I bought a new one for 100 euro last year

It actually does receive updates. My mom has this tablet and she has 5.1.1 on it. However I would still get the the newest Nexus out not this one at this point.

That's probably the latest update it will get, It won't get Android M which is around the corner.

Also the 1gb of ram is a bit of low these days.

Yeah it's getting a bit dated that's why I wouldn't recommend getting it.

After updating to lollipop is recommended to backup and do a full reset. That's what I did after looking into more and it's run so much better since.

But that's straying away a bit from the op. I did however buy my nexus 7 from ebay for 75 and thoughts its been well worth that price.

What!?!?!?!! What happened to the claim that I keep hearing about updates improving performance on the android side as opposed to "crippling" performance on iOS?

That claim is true and Android M is fairly light and supposedly works better on old devices but unfortunately the Nexus 7 won't receive the official Android M update.

Android 5/5.1 on the original nexus 7 is quite shitty to say. But a custom rom will do wonders same story for the upcoming android M it will be fine with a custom rom.

But the problem remains Android and mobile hardware develops so fast that a 2/3 year old device is outdated nothing you can do about it.
