The stores usually buy from fuwell or bizgram. They raise prices to make a profit. You'll find that buying locally is still cheaper than buying online because of the expensive shipping we have to pay. Oh and one thing, Nvidia and Asus products have very inflated prices in Singapore.

The prices at sim Lim square are so expensive, like a titan x costs $1799 and a 980Ti costs $1149. In america, a titan x costs $1079 and the 980Ti costs $660, is it because of taxes or something?

It's probably VAT tax. Some areas ramp the VAT tax way up, for a number of reasons, or it may just be because lack of stock for the product, or the store may be jacking up the price so that they actually make some money off it. After all, you wouldn't want to own a store and make no profit off the items people buy.

Australia had a tax scandal like 1-2 years ago that forced crap up higher.  That piled on top of a VAT tax is just harsh.  :S

Not to mention the government is now trying to add GST to online orders.....

I don't know about other countries.. But for Singapore,

First of, you gotta take currency exchange into account.

Titan X in SLS (Singapore) the price you quoted, 1799, is in Sgd which is around 1340 Usd

Secondly, there's the Gst (VAT taxes) and thirdly, there's the shipping cost and lastly, the profit the stores want to make.

All in all if you want to cut off the middle man (the stores), there's Amazon. You can't escape the Gst (7% currently) but it's definitely cheaper than buying from stores here, and there's international free shipping to Sg. But of course, you gotta bare in mind that there's no local warranty if you buy it from Amazon.
