Hi!

Im deciding which gpu should I get and its between reference 970 and reference 980.

Price difference is 120pounds between two. Right now I have 1080p monitor, but soon I will be getting 4k monitor, so which one should I get? I know 980ti would be perfect but it just costs too much.

Also if it would help, I have 4770k cpu.

Thanks!

They both will struggle with 4K.

You could also save your money for a 980 Ti.

The thing is that currently I have no dedicated gpu and I need to get one asap. I was hoping for amd to launch 390 or 390x with decent performance, but it looks like its gonna be barely faster than 970, but yeah, anyways I'm going to wait till 16th.

get a 980. it is shown by jays2cent that 980 sli will be enough juice for 4k. 970 will somehow almost the same but the 3.5gb thingy gonna cause some trouble in the future which prevention is better than cure. so go with a 980 now, upgrade to sli when u r getting 4k monitor. either one can come first the 2nd 980 or 4k but that is your choice. (note: 4k can be tone down so you can still live with it until you get the 2nd 980 then only tune it back up to 4k)

Actually thats a good idea, because 4k scales to 1080p perfectly.

Also the the thing I'm interested would I notice any big improvement on 4k with 980, and would that improvement be worth 120pounds?

Why buy a 4k monitor if you can't afford the GPU to drive it?

Im studying multimedia, so its nice to see al those pixels when working with photos, or videos. Also it looks much better when doing daily tasks like browsing web, reading, watching youtube in 4k. I just love pixels.

i would say yes but to a certain degree. But you still do leave room for future upgrades and better future compatibility. if you get 970 now 970 sli will be almost enough for 4k but 980 sli will confirm be enough.
