Enable Windows Update or nah?

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

I have automatic windows updates on and it works perfectly fine for me

My system is not slow at all

I think people who say that are just bad at managing their registry and program installations allowing crap to build up over time

you should ALWAYS have updates on because security patches are very important to keep your system safe from exploits and malware

I have Windows 7 and I've been told that I should disable the updates as they "slow down the system with security patch after security patch." Should I enable Windows Update or nah?

"Slow down the system with security patch after security patch"??? Did someone actually say that?

If I understand correctly, you most definitely do want update enabled because you definitely do want to have the latest security patches. Patching vulnerabilities doesn't slow down a system.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

if you dont keep your OS clean a lot of stuff builds up over time that slows the system down

every time you uninstall something there are things left behind

ways of maintaining your OS are

-ccleaner to delete registry errors

-keeping all programs up to date with the latest version

-installing all the latest windows updates

-removing duplicate files

-knowing where all your stuff is and not having a billion shortcuts all over the place to stuff you dont even know is there

-deleting files you dont need

-removing programs you have not used in the past few months

-removing installation folders from programs you have uninstalled

-deleting temp files from programs (ccleaner does this too)

-doing a clean install every 1-2 years
