"unable to save display settings"

suddenly my main monitor don't work, it shows up under screen resolution but when i enable it it just says "unable to save display settings". it worked fine earlier today, the problem came after turning the PC on again. it's a vg248qe using DP.

i have: reinstalled monitor driver from asus, rebooting, rebooting with only the main screen, still doesn't work

EDIT: it turns out the DP cable broke for no reason, it works with HDMI

i got a new DP and i still have the problem, i tried disabling SLI and connecting it to my second screen, same problem. What should i do?

Probably need an "Active" DP adapter.  I ran into that when trying to hook up 3 monitors.  How many are you hooking up?

Two, i use a full DP (DP to DP) no adaptor, if i disconnect the secondary it still doesnt work and like i said. it worked fine for 4 months, it just happened now
