need a harddrive recomendation

so i need a harddrive recomendation i already have a samsung 850 evo 120 gb for my new build but i still cant seem to pick a harddrive. i wont be doing much other than gaming and music production maybe some video editing and id like to keep it at about 100 dollars american.

If you can afford to go about $130 you can get a 2TB WD BACK. best thing for gaming.

Greens are for backup really, not made for 24/7 use and they have power saving measures that mean they can be slow.

Blues are just cheap blacks but not as good.

Actually Blues are faster than Black and the only thing new black hdd's have is more warranty.

Seagate is good and atleast you don't have to pay 2x the price to get one. You can get 2 barracudas for the price of one wd black and raid them...

Barracuda already is the same speed as wd black. If you are talking about warranty then maybe seagate enterprise series... 

But seagate only makes one type of consumer drive to avoid confusion.

I have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda, a 1TB WD Black and a 2TB WD Red, and all three are great, though if I were pushed I would say the Black is best, just because it is marginally quieter than the Barracuda. The Red is also great, though slower and more noisy, though not massively so. If I were you, I would go for the Black as Western Digital tend to have a better reputation for quality and reliability over Seagate, though if you are price conscious I would have no problem recommending the Red or Barracuda as a fair substitute. In short, you will be happy with all three, but if budget isn't an issue go with the WD Black.

I went through the whole "researching what hard drive" and came away with the feeling that people were on average more satisfied with WD over Seagate, with fewer failures. Chances are, Seagate is absolutely fine but in a perfect world I would pick the Black simply because of that opinion I have developed over time. Hence, if budget is an issue, Seagate, if it isn't, WD

Welp. I have 40gb barracuda and 250gb barracuda and 2x1TB barracudas and 2 laptops with seagate hdd's and one seagate external drive and I haven't had one drive fail...  :lol:

Games rely on the storage's performance only for their loading times and FPS and graphics are not affected at all. It really depends if you need faster access times for music production and video editing from the HDD.

It feels so slow with the head parking like using a pc from 2005. Why hinder yourself, it has no real advantages except for being quiet when off, but everything is quiet when it's off.

The drive is not designed for performance, hence it's not particularly appropriate for more demanding applications. The "head-parking" is part of the IntelliPower feature (alongside with specifically tuned spin speed, transfer rates and caching algorithms) of the drive which altogether enables the drive to draw much less power from the PSU.

The drive behaves and performs similar to WD Red in regular desktop setups. I've seen many people (even here on the forum) that use these drives for their NAS setups, larger standalone drive pools and other more massive storage configurations for long-term storage, simple file storage and backups (just what the drive is designed for). The only drawback that users might encounter is whenever an application requires faster access times due to the drive's spindown feature.
