Best mic?

Hi everyone :)

 

So I'll *hopefully* be finally upgrading from a cheap toshiba satellite laptop with integrated graphics to a desktop.  I'd love to get a good/great/outstanding microphone to go along with this build. It'll mostly be for in-game talking but i may stream or do youtube later though as a fun thing I don't know for sure.

We live right next to train tracks though which could be a problem. The desktop would be downstairs though so noise isn't as bad, but its still noticeable, mostly caused by the house shaking. So that must be taken into consideration which is why this is such a hard decision for me.

except he said he lives i a loud area and all the noise would get picked up

Honestly I'd like it under $300 but up to $500 is fine

Ya i've been looking at them all day, but since i wasn't doing anything huge right now other then mostly talking to other people inside a game i didn't want to splurge on something super expensive.

the heil pr40 is awesome for ambient noise rejection and adds a nice low bassy tone to your voice. HOWEVER its something I'd only suggest to a professional not a hobbyist youtuber. but... it is within your listed budgets /shrug

AT2050, AT2020, AT2030. The AT2020 is USB and then rest are XLR so you would need an amp. Since it's only a mic into a PC you wouldn't need anything special or expensive. Captain Sparklez, GassyMexican, and the Rooster Teeth podacast all use the AT2050 or AT2030. They are great mics under $300 and usually are bundled with pop filters, vibration mounts, cases, and stands. I suggest Amazon as a place to get one. They are made to pick up your voice so they sound better for commentary then recording music. Also great on not picking up background noises.

No different then any other mic. Thats their job, to pickup noise. Some pickup more then others but if the background is noisy then the mic will pickup that noise regardless of the mic used. Its the job of the user to limit the background noise that is picked up by properly setting up the mic

Honestly I'd like it under $300 but up to $500 is fine

 

Save your money. A $50 mic will be more than good.

That doesn't even make sense concerning physics. The modmic is ten times closer to your mouth than a snowball or yeti or other mic would be

 

the modmic is not ten times louder

sound volume is inversely proportional to the square of the distance therefore at the same volume, the modmic picks up a fraction of background noise than a snowball would

 

you can look up tests for all different mics and you will find that headset mic like the modmic pick up far less ambient sounds
