I know this is very frowned upon but I figured why not since the laptop I have has brilliant cooling, so I went and overclocked my 5730m which is old, but so is the laptop it's a Dell Alienware M15x I brought it cheap so please don't ridicule me for purchasing it I got it for £500 and it has a i7-920xm which is a extreme processor.

Good for you. I only game on my desktop and I only take notes/other light tasks/games on my laptop but it's something I've thought about.

I didn't originally get mine for gaming, I got it for work purposes as I do allot of 3D and editing. I'm putting together a desktop next month I've set aside a budget of £1,200 for my desktop.

That's a nice solid budget imo.

Thanks I've wanted to build my own desktop for ages, most of my friends brought alienware desktops a month back, so I waited with what I had and worked out I can get a solid 780 build which will be powerful still thinking about waiting for the 9970 because I'd have a little bit more of a budget!

It really does! I'm happy with it I can play Alan Wake which I've wanted to play for ages! And it plays at a Solid 30FPS at 1080p resolution since my laptop has a 1080p monitor built in.

Most people frown at it because the cooling can be a issue but if you've got good cooling its not a problem!

With that mindset you might just end up waiting forever :P

I know, which is why I'm going 4770k, Sabertooth, 16GB Ram Vengeance later upgrading to 32GB, 780 ASUS, 750PSU for SLI down the line and a 840pro 128GB. I've got normal hard drives laying about which are 1TB each since I have upgraded my NAS.

The sabertooth is a waste of money imo. You can get much cheaper mobos that do the job just as well.

Unless you're getting a gold/platinum psu, I'd get a cheaper bronze/silver 850w instead for 780 sli.

The Samsung 840 (non pro) will do the job just as well. If you need a faster ssd for a scratchdisk, just get the 840 250GB for more capacity which isn't much more expensive than the 840 Pro 128GB.

I'm going to be running my 1TB drives in Raid so they're going to be my scratch disks SSD's as far as I know shouldn't be used as them, but technology has evolved allot. I'm going to be getting a Gold one because I am replacing the Work Station which I have in my Signature with this because of power usage, I want my computer to look nice to be fair if you've got any suggestions on the motherboard which can overclock as well it would be much appreciated.

I'm wondering what ram would go with it because it's going to be a open side panel which you can see in. I've never been a fan of gigabyte I've had a motherboard fail from them before but I might try it.

I never liked Gigabyte that much for their looks but they polished things up with the z87's. The z77's look good with some specific themed builds though. They do make solid motherboards.

What kind of cooling are you going with?

As for ram, just go with the cheapest CL9 1600 memory you like.

I might consider Gigabyte I've always liked MSI or ASUS. I'm going with some £80 vengeance ram which is red and a closed loop cooler not sure which yet.

I've changed my mind about the SLI I don't think I'll need it. Since I'm going with a 780 and this build will last a few years.

If you're just using an AIO cooler, you don't need a top overclocking motherboard. Even the cheapest z87 mobo would do fine with 4.8ghz if your chips allows it.

That's fine then, I just want a nice looking computer to be fair and a full size ATX with allot of features because I'll more than likely use them.
