Touch screen monitors

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

Sadly, because there all the hype around touch screen. It's costly.

The price floats around these:

http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=320-9517

(yes, please don't try and make sense on why a 23inch is almost double the price as the 22inch, and both are entry level IPS panels, and 1080p. It's just to show you how the prices are based on hype and nothing else).

I don't think so unless you get a All-in-one computer.

I think there are not any good ones at the moment, but the price will come down very fast if touch screen desktops catch on.

I wouldn't recommend a desktop touch screen monitor simply because it isn't as practical as a mobile counterpart.

Thank you I don't get why everyone is so against touch screens here. Especially if I want to upgrade to windows 8 :p

I really like the Acer T-Series touch screen, but when on sale it's still pretty expensive. Retails regularly for $499, ouch. I'd look to something cheaper like a Leap Motion to get similar interactions without the awkwardness of a touch screen on your desk, imo it's awkward anyway.

The plan is to have it for a dual boot system with windows 8 on a separate hard drive, I find myself tapping on my current, er, television on my desk getting used to touch

Ah, that makes a little more sense. Unfortunately, the market for touch screen desktop monitors is still fresh, so the prices are still high. You could almost buy a touch screen notebook and remote into your tower and it wouldn't be much less/more than standalone touch screens.

I don't know, it's possible that more of these kinds of monitors will come to market, create competition, and help drive prices down (I'm not up-to-date on monitor news). On the flipside, manufacturers may not see the market potential for these monitors and the selection will remain largely the same with no price drops, with the exception of boxing day or black friday sales.

Darn well I guess we will see what happens, thanks :)

Yes I know, but I want to use a touch screen

Your arm will start hurting so fast. It's different for notebooks since they're not far away. But for a monitor is further away and the more your arm had to stretch then the heavier its going to feel. Just standard ergonomics.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Why do people think that a touch monitor MUST BE up-right.

All these touch monitors allows you to put them up-close to you and near flat. Some allows you to go over your keyboard, allowing you to have touch when you need it, or want it, and keyboard mouse, with a normal screen position when you don't. So basically the touch screen COMPLIMENTS keyboard and mouse.
