soo, what do you guys think of the steam hardware that is coming up pretty soon?

I mainly mean the "steam controller" and "steam link"

they seem to be pretty nice, especially the link, atleast if you ahve the bandwith for it.

might be getting the controller myself if it's better then an x-box one.

so what do you guys think/find of these things.

(note, steam machines are still pretty overpriced livingroom PCs imo)

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

Still not impressed by the controller, will wait what reviewers have to say.

And the boxes.. Eh, they feel too much marketed towards ... Non PC guys (with their not so descriptive spec details)

yeah, the controller is the only real interesting thing they plan to release, altough the reviews will make it or break it.

IIRC linus(or luke) had a chance to try the original concept, which seemed to work pretty well once you got used to it.

damn... that's really a joke yeah, they didnt release any specs here yet though, although the cheapest machine from AW is 500 dollar with a "high-end" Nvidea gpu that has 2gb vram

Polygon

The Alienware Steam Machine will sell for $449 and top off at $749.

Both systems are fully upgradeable, with one pretty important exception: The GPU, custom made by Nvidia, is built into the motherboard and can't be upgraded. The custom built chips perform at the same level as a GeForce GTX 860M or better, according to Dell.

I can't really judge a controller without using it, I think the idea is to allow more genres like FPS and RTS etc to work from the couch. I didn't like the look of the first prototype. I do like the latest one since it has both a haptic feedback trackpad and a traditional analog stick. But again my opinion is not worth much as I haven't used it, would need to use it for long enough to get past the learning curve and then form an opinion.

As for the steam machines; I think the specs will change significantly by launch time. But either way I don't think it's of much interest to the people on this forum. We are the DIY crowd unlikely to buy prebuilds
