Just been issued a refund for my processor that I ordered over a year ago because I figured it's a really bad overclocker. Oh I love Amazon.

I've been using arctic silver-5 but I've been told it's no longer the best out there. What do you guys recommend I use when my 4690k comes?

Cheers.

Arctic MX-2/4 or IC Diamond are the best.

Artcic MX-4 is alot cheaper than IC Diamond in UK. Is there much of a difference?

nope,

NT-H1 or GELID GC Extreme, and if you are risky CLU

I was looking at the GELID GC extreme. Why the hell does it come with a spatula? I thought pea method was the best way rather than spreading.

MX4, NT-H1, IC Diamond and GELID GC Extreme are really awesome.

Is there much of a difference? No.

They are all good. MX4 is the best for how much it costs.

Personally i use some "industrial grade" Amasan T12, The temps are often only about 1-5% higher when going from a decent thermal paste to the best.
I bought a 35 gram tube for 10 bucks, Im not going to run out of thermal paste anytime soon.

These benchmarks doesnt include IC diamond.

Lots of thermal paste comes with a *spreader. Deepcool Z5 does aswell. I'm pretty sure people used to spread it until they found pea method.

Is Gelid GC-Extreme just as easy to apply as say AS5?

Slightly off-topic:

When I switch CPU's, is my bios automatically set to default, or should I do this before taking the old one out? I take it overclocking the 4670k and 4690k is similar.

Personal opinion :-

Basically I would go with any 'name brand', there are fan boys who will say X is definetly the best while others will say Y is the best., as long as you don't go for the really cheap bulk no-name stuff any will do just fine. I would imagine there is very little difference between them .

Yup, ordered the mx-4. Was cheapest out of all the suggested ones. For £4 you can't go wrong with a thermal paste that gets good recognition

Cheers for the reply folks.
