Questions about laptops

Go to solution Solved by gazabi,

Q.1 Most likely asus.

Q.2 less than %10, these laptops use MXM modules for their gpus.

Q.3 probably 3 or more years depending on how well you can handle lowering graphics settings for newer games.

Hey guys! I have some general questions about laptops. Here we go:

Q.1: What is the best manufacturer for laptops? Criteria: Highest quality, good warranties, good price to performance and ease of upgrade.

Q.2: What percent of laptops can have their gpus upgraded?

Q.3: How much time do laptops last before the performance of the laptop isn't good for games?

That's it for my questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

Q.1 thats pretty much subjective.

Q.2 dont know about percentage but laptops with MxM modules that are not soldered on the Mobo. Ei. Alienware (pre 2015), Sager/Clevo to name a few. Mostly the thick laptops. I dont know of any thin laptop that is upgradable.

Q.3 depends on usage and the game. Again pretty subjective.

1: Apple (not for ease of upgrade), Lenovo, Asus, some Dells.

2: Some. If soldered on mobo, it would require a mobo replacement if there is one with a better gpu. I think for some of them, if the gpu is integraded into the cpu, it might be possible to replace it if supported but isn't common.

3: If you keep the OS clean and running well, then it would depend on how advanced games get.

CPU - FX 8350 @ 4.5GHZ GPU - Radeon 5700  Mobo - M5A99FX Pro R2.0 RAM - Crucial Ballistix 16GB @ 1600 PSU - Corsair CX600M CPU Cooler - Hyper 212 EVO Storage - Samsung EVO 250GB, WD Blue 1TB

What are MXM modules?

They are laptop equivalent to desktop graphics cards. They plug into special pci slots, and cooling for them is different for each laptop.

They look like this

I agree, also MSI makes good laptops, if its a workstation laptop then a W series thinkpad is a good option, they are very well built but not meant for gaming.

Laptop: Thinkpad W520 i7 2720QM 24GB RAM 1920x1080 2x SSDs Main Rig: 4790k 12GB Hyperx Beast Zotac 980ti AMP! Fractal Define S (window) RM850 Noctua NH-D15 EVGA Z97 FTW with 3 1080P 144hz monitors from Asus Secondary: i5 6600K, R9 390 STRIX, 16GB DDR4, Acer Predator 144Hz 1440P

As Centos 7 SU once said: With great power comes great responsibility.
