I found this interesting.

I do wonder how a game written in the standard way would perform compared to the same game designed and rendered with HSA support on one of these new APUs, I wonder what kind of differential it would make with ddr4 ram vs later hbm ram in an apu for an entire notebook system.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

Pretty much all they do these days is talk. We have yet to see any of the "25x better energy efficiency" that they claimed last year

The 25x energy efficiency was set to occur by 2020, and this was an early step in getting there.   Carrizo is not just talk though, it's basically here once the notebooks start hitting shelves.  The main problem is all the people who inherently shit on amd and think any and all chips they make are for the peasant folk and have zero value.

A 15w carrizo chip with hardware h.265 decoding for longer video playback that is still fast enough to handle normal notebook tasks with aplomb could be a nice addition in any modern laptop, but I suspect many oems will stick these chips in gutter level casings because they know the sentiment out there is more hostile to amd.  I don't think it will quite catch broadwell in efficiency, but I'd be curious to see how long a 15w tdp u series from intel fares against a 15w carrizo part with the same notebook components.

Ok then...

20% through the 5 year plan, 0% energy efficiency improvements so far.

Dude, you missed the entire point of carrizo, one of the MAJOR improvements is efficiency!

We're only 1 year in since they made that announcement. They didn't say that they were going to get it all worked out in the next 6 months and then sit on it for 4.5 years.

Did you not understand the percentages?

if 20% of the time has gone by and they have made no progress you can probably throw "25x efficiency" right out the window

20% of the time has gone by and they haven't released anything that enacts the efficiency boost they said they would achieve. Were you expecting them to release a new CPU every year for five years, ending with the final level of increased efficiency? They still have time and I'm sure that they are hard at work to achieve the performance increase they said they would. If you really hate AMD that much, why do you even bother reading and commenting on threads like these?

Who said anything about hating? I was talking about how they say a lot and show little progress.

And we're just saying how it's only been a year, and they still have four more. If 2020 passes and they haven't released a more efficient lineup, then we can say they were all talk and no show. I'm sure they will meet their goal before the 2020 deadline passes.
