No you will not get performance faster than a HDD from a SSD in an external enclosure if that what you mean? :)

no it goes through the USB bus and will not yield the same performance you can Ghetto mount one on another drive or something as long as it is well cooled and held there

External hard drive of mine gets 100MB's, SSD got 150-200 depending on the file types (Lot's of little files 150, bigger files like movies got 200) This was USB 3.0, 2.0 would be no difference

no space? an SSD will fit anywhere, I've velcrowed them to other hard drives, to the under side of dvd drives, double sided taped them to the mobo tray ect. as long as their secure it doesnt matter how you do it.

So, i dont have any extra space in my desktop for an SSD, is an external SSD the same thing, does it give the same performance?

try mounting it somewhere in a case and it doesn't require much air flow put it on your drive cage or at a bottom of the case or behind mobo trey

As people have pointed out above, USB 2.0 will severely limit the speed of an SSD. USB 3.0 would be much better (theoretically supporting full speed of most SSDs, but real performance may vary), but you would likely run into issues trying to use it as a boot drive.

If you want an SSD boot drive you can just stick it down in your case. You can safely tape an SSD onto any flat surface, but I would recommend sticky back Velcro for it. There aren't any moving parts so bumping or vibration doesn't pose the same risk of damage to SSDs as they do HDDs.

If you don't have a spare SATA power connector you can almost certainly use a 4-pin molex to SATA power adapter, not many SSDs require 3.3V.

If you don't have a spare SATA data connector you may be out of luck.
