Hello the world of Linustechtips!

I am in the market for my first gaming PC. The PC that I am currently looking at i have high hopes for. These are the specs:

Intel Core i5 4690K Processor overclocked to up to 4.2GHz

Corsair H55 Liquid Cooler

Gigabyte Z97-HD3 Motherboard

GeForce GTX 970 4GB Graphics Card

8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 Memory

1000GB Seagate SSHD Hybrid Drive

Corsair CX600 PSU

I'll be looking to play the most recent and popular games like GTA 5, Battlefield 4, Skyrim, Black Ops 3 etc...

Can you guys recommend that I change anything in this PC to give me better performance? I hope to play these games at their highest settings (or there abouts) and resolution.

Any help is much appreciated guys as i am a scrub when it comes to PC hardware.

Thanks!

if you look closely, you see that the text color is diffrent from the other letters where the specs are, and the "up to 4.2 Ghz" tells me that this is copied off a system builder's website...

here is the link though: pcpartpicker

H55 isn't really necessary when something like the Hyper 212 Evo exists.

And the Corsair CX600 is troublesome. XFX, Seasonic or EVGA (B2 models) are much better.

You didn't list a case either. A good case is essential. There are plenty to choose from, find something that piques your interest and check out reviews.

The rest of your proposed build is solid.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

I am in the UK. I can comfortably go up to £900. If you can recommend any other hardware to replace in the system to give me better performance, ill happily go over. I'd love for it to be a power house machine but also for it to be a relatively silent machine.

I'm hoping to have the 970? Sorry, made a mistake in the part builder. Should have been the 970

why the 970?

why the 970?

I know people say 'build your own PC and it'll work out cheaper' but I don't have the slightest clue what to do when it comes to that. So the company that I am getting the PC from, Chillblast, will upgrade it to a 980 for something like £350. That's a bit steep I think.

The videos that I have watched of the 970 vs 980 there is sometimes just a 5-10 difference in FPS. Sometimes the 970 out-performs the 980. Do you think it could be a problem if I get a 970?

The 212 Evo is cheaper and will work just as well (if not better) than the H55. And as for the CX600 I've had one personally go bad out of the blue, and multiple other users on this very forum have had them fail at random.

Just food for thought anyways. I have a new CX600 provided by Corsair running fine in a different system, but the one that failed has caused some damage to my main system. Took out my original 970 too.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top.
