So basically, I've been looking into getting a gaming PC but I don't really know where to start. I've gotten lots of tips from friends and I've tried to make some OK PCs in PCPartPicker, but I don't know if what I want to get is overkill for a starting gaming PC or not enough. Anyways, I'd really appreciate any tips or tricks that you can offer. Anyhow, I'll just post the PCPartPicker link so you can take a look and let me know if there's anything that I could change.

PS: I'm trying to keep everything under 1.6k. :)

if its just for gaming, there's quite a few corners you can cut in this build: i5 will suffice, as will 8GB ram, a cheaper mobo, and a lower wattage power supply.

you're on the right track, but you're picking a bit high i feel.

What are you trying to do with your pc? ( besides gaming )

Well, next school year, I'm taking DVA (Digital Video and Audio) which will require a bit of work with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop, which is why I went with 16GB. That's basically the two main reasons I'm getting this PC.

so i tinkered around a bit, spec list as follows:

i5 4690K, will do all the gaming you need.

cpu cooler will do its job.

mobo may be a tad overkill, but theres budget, so might as well go for it.

stuck with 16GB RAM, but swapped it out with vengeance LP, for cooler compatibility.

left storage as is, because its allright.

GPU is a good pick, not gonna argue

case is personal taste, i'll rarely point and laugh at people's choices.

got a bit lower wattage psu, this one will do just fine.

as for the wifi card: i have REALLY bad experiences with about the entire range of tp-link products, and ASUS seems to be a brand that can do nothing wrong to me.

also, YES its an overkill wifi card, but it'll only make sure it wont give you a 5Kbit connection like my lady's TPlink card does...

EDIT: in case you're going to do productivity, turn that back to an i7, like so:

Alright, thanks! Also, any recommendations on a monitor and keyboard? I already have a mouse and other peripherals, so those two things would really be the final touch to the PC.

i might be the worst person to ask for those, because my peripherals consist of a duck-taped G110 keyboard, a mildly worn out G500 mouse, and 3 CRAPPY 1080p monitors that run at 1440p trough nvidia magic & pixie dust™

EDIT: besides, i consider mouse and keyboard very personal choices.

Get a IPS Monitor, it will be better for the Photoshop, etc. (color display and the options to calibrate the colors are superior to the other panel types. IPS panels keep colors constant, even in sharp angles.)

Perfect, if you have any recommendations on a keyboard, I'd gladly appreciate it ;)

PS: I've been disputing about the Razer Blackwidow Chroma and the Corsair K70 RGB.

**IMO** Corsair makes overall better quality products than razer, also look into what type of cherry switches you are into to, (Mechanical>Membrane) http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/and http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/255051-what-key-switch-should-i-get-look-here/ should help you on your decision.
